Infinite combos for standard
Standard forum

Obviously we all know about the elite arcanist zur-tah druid combo by now, but its slow and kinda clunky to be honest. There is however a new way to use this guy with triton tactics to gain infinite mana of any color. Use elite arcanist, voyaging satyr, and shrine to nyx (with a color enabler) and with just four devotion you can have all the mana in the world. Which combos in standard have you come up with?

Have you guys considered what you would be able to do with Phenax, God of Deception with that combo? Casting unlimited copies of Triton Tactics gives those targets HUGE butts, and you could easily mill ftw.

kriskurse I agree that its a lot easier, but axebane guardian is going to cycle out and the shrines going to stay a whole year longer, either way you could just change a few cards from the deck and get the same effect.

blackmaj97 while true, Elite Arcanist will more then likely also rotate out. It was printed in M14 and unless they decided to reprint it, it too would be gone.

Well, there is the Archangel of Thune , Fathom Mage , and Horizon Chimera for (near) infinite counters life and draw. Also kind of clunky, but each piece is somewhat effective on its own. Hmmm, what else...

kriskurse they probably wont considering its not a "staple" core set card, either way there are ways to make infinite mana in standard and its much easier to abuse using the satyr because its a two drop meaning you just burningtree emissary into it and cast elite arcanist turn three, and go off turn four. But im definitely putting in axebane guardians and sylvan caryatids in my combo deck now that I see that interaction. You can definitely win using like revalation or a burn spell with x in it. And you can drop a huge mistcutter and win against many control decks. My point is that this combo is going to hopefully make a change to the current format once the new sets come out.

Having 2 Kiora's Follower and an Illusionist's Bracers generates infinite mana (as long as you have a land).

infinitemana why not just one? You untap the equipped one and a land and go infinite right?

Also, I don't see any circumstance that a combo so fragile as any involving Elite Arcanist will make a break out in standard, especially any format that Mono Black Devotion exists. If you take away one piece, you've essentially bought an extra 5 turns as they dig for the next one, and by that time, you should win.
I'm not saying that combos like this are bad, I'm just saying that they aren't right for this format in a competitive sense, and will not see any play in a high stakes tournament.

I wrote about that combo in my most recent article on LegitMTG.com. Here is the link http://legitmtg.com/competitive/one-mans-trash-pilot/
I agree it is a bit clunky, but it's better when it isn't the only win condition. Other then that, up until Born of the Gods is released not much to work with.
An easier Arcanist trick is using Axebane Guardian and one other defender. Tap Axebane Guardian for 2 mana of any color, then use one to tap Elite Arcanist to cast Triton Tactics , untapping both to continue the process for infinite colored mana. A LOT easier then how you were doing it.
