Is a Maze's end deck fun?

I've always been a little interested in attempting a Maze's End deck. I saw someone running a deck like that at my last FNM and did alright. How do people make the deck competitive? Seems like the deck is just a big hit / miss kind of thing. I would love to get a strong Maze's End deck going!

All suggestions and feedback will be very helpful!!!

Well, do you enjoy making your opponents cry out in agony? These decks tend to be some of the most unresponsive decks ever made. You have very little interaction with your opponent. Just toss out fog effects and bide your time. Personally, I love the idea behind them and the win con is super cool. However, Maze's End is an absolute annoyance to face. They're some of the most effective cheap decks in standard...

Maze's End is so damn slow... However, I could see it working in Legacy with a combo of Wasteland s and Primeval Titan s with Life from the Loam s to keep you going.

No. Maze's End is too slow to be competitive. It stalls the game out really well, but the most efficient decks can easily punch through.

Games 2 and 3: Pithing Needle on Maze's End.

And for Legacy? You're going to run AT LEAST 11 comes into play tapped lands in Legacy? Seriously?

Checklist to see if you should play Maze's End :

  • Do you like to durdle until turn 12?
  • Do you like to play solitaire?
  • Do you like beating $400 decks with a $10 pile of garbage?
  • Can you do combat math four turns ahead of your opponent?
  • Are you a griefer?
  • Do you like to troll IRL?
  • Is randomly losing to a deck that has every haste creature in Standard not an issue for you?
  • Are friends something you can do without?

If you answered yes to any of the above, you should play Maze's End .

First off, Maze's End fog decks aren't the best. They kick of very slow. I love playing them with my Land Destruction deck. They do irk my Simic deck though... Actually one of few decks that actually make me weep when running Simic.

Maze's end Slivers I actually find a heck load more frustrating.

Maze's End is a cool concept but the whole turbofog game is so boring it makes me cry. However, there are some cool shenanigans you can play with it like Crackling Perimeter , Gateway Shade , Prophet of Kruphix , Courser of Kruphix , Urban Evolution , Kiora, the Crashing Wave , and my personal favorite Chromanticore .

Turbofog Maze's end isn't playable against Aggro and Skullcrack is still a thing is sideboards.

The control route is a way better possibility. Gate the hell out of my maze

I often get asked, two things, First; "Why do you run 4 basics instead of ... ?" It's really simple: Aggro is a really bad matchup. Cackler, into Zelot, into Reckoner, into Dragon is a one way death sentence, unless I manage to stop it early on.

A turn 2 devour flesh, turn 3 putrify or turn 4 Supreme Verdict are needed to catch up, so this deck needs lands. Saruli Gatekeepers and Warleader's Helix also buy back some of that quick life loss. Aggro and other creature based decks are the main enemy, so the deck is filled with removal. Control doesn't matter, because neither Esper nor Azorius have any way to interact with lands preboarded. Game one should always be a victory

Second: "Why don't you run x gate three times and y gate just once?"It is really important to play a new gate each turn, if possible. Everytime you can't drop a different gate, you're giving the opponent more time to react.

About fun: I'll be quoting myself on this: *"Playing a maze deck is like playing pen&paper; your Quest: Reach the 10 Gates.

While you're trying to achive that, the opponent must stop you in every way he can. So you're running through your deck, fighting the opponents cruel spells and mighty creatures, until either failure or victory arises."*

I'm currently running a 5-color control ME deck. It's not actually TurboFug. I use a lot of Fuse cards and lifegain effects. Mostly a Bant shell.

Like TexasDice, I also prefer the removal-based Maze's End deck to the Fog-based one (I'm getting ready to put Kiora, the Crashing Wave in mine - Ravnica-Theros-M14 Maze's End). I like the way that if you deal with a threat and your opponent doesn't replace it on his next turn then you get a chance to kick back, relax, and do other stuff.

It actually doesn't take that long to finish a game, as the nature of the deck means it's usually winning on turn 11-12 instead of 16+ for other kinds of control deck. Unless, of course, you get stuck in the nightmare game where you naturally draw into all 10 gates plus 4-5 duplicates and have already played 3x Urban Evolution before you finally get the first Maze's End and you just want to die (this has happened to me a few times).

If you like losing games and friends, sure, go ahead and play Maze's End .
