Is Cloistered Youth Flip playable?

If not why not? The number of times I've Soulbonded a Silverblade Paladin to an Unholy Fiend Flip attacking with an exalted bonus makes me think it could be...with the proper surroundings.

I play it in my junk midrange deck. I find its better because it can still be used from the graveyard or played again from hand, unlike a token

also its less mana intensive than Call of the Conclave

I agree that conclave is better, no downside to the 3/3 body, but it is more intensive mana wise.... But that's the price you pay, I guess. We can't all have exactly what we want....
I almost never seen Cloistered Youth Flip , but that doesn't mean it can't be some rogue card. I also never see Door to Nothingness or Worldfire , but some people see those and are determined to make competitive decks. Some succeed.
So use it if it works for you, but their are better options. Here is a search for standard creatures with the same CMC.

The search is in junk colors, because I mixed you and atreyujames up....

At 2 mana in Humans, you already have Mayor of Avabruck Flip and Burning-Tree Emissary , both of which I'd rather have in an aggressive deck.

Let's derail the thread with how awesome Burning-Tree Emissary is.
I love it. So much synergy with Searing Spear , Lightning Mauler , Flinthoof Boar , etc.
Oh, and itself.

2 for 1/1 is never good, and having to lose life at the end of everyturn can cost you games.

you're paying 2 mana for a 3/3, with a 1 turn delay. On turn three you have a 3/3 that costs you a little bit of life, can't get through Loxodon Smiter or Restoration Angel , and is, just a 3/3. The reason the other humans 2-drops are better is because it is much easier to make them good and they have a powerful immediate effect. Some popular humans 2 drops are Burning-Tree Emissary , Lightning Mauler , Mayor of Avabruck Flip , Flinthoof Boar , etc. All of these have an immediate impact, so you can make turn 2 plays. Also, in any good humans deck, Champion of the Parish and Boros Elite provide a 3/3 or bigger on turn 3. Cloistered Youth Flip shows up a bit late to the party in terms of the power level that creatures in standard have to maintain now. I mean, this is the standard where 3/3s for 2 aren't even played, and we have Thragtusk , Restoration Angel , Falkenrath Aristocrat , etc.

Can we also derail the thread even further with how awesome Champion of the Parish is?
If you play humans in standard, he's your guy.

Is this a testament to the direction standard has gone? I like everything about it, but I kind of wish it was a Spirit horror when it transforms. But as is you guys are probably right, a 3/3 with a drawback for 2 isn't good enough for standard play.

Hey if it works, consider it filler until you get something better.
I'm currently using Bloodfray Giant in place of Hellrider (as my only non two drop creature, simply to finish longer games faster), because I only own one Hellrider currently.

you mention an exalted bonus. There really isn;t anything that makes this guys better than Knight of Glory in exalted. There shouldn't be a game where you want Cloistered Youth Flip more.

I tested it, and a 3/3 Unholy Fiend Flip soulbonded to a Paladin after a turn one Cathedral of War hits hard on turn three. But...in the long run there are better 2-drops.

That's pretty nice, turn 3 swing for eight damage....
Although..... (and this isn't bragging rights or anything, ive seen people do much more in standard on turn two) my standard human deck very consistently hits for 7 on turn two, and close to game on turn three.
But again, if you find it usable, use it. I recommend keeping an eye for something better though.

I'm just on the hunt for sleepers and forgotten gems that's all. Two releases left before Innistrad leaves us

Seems like it's a bit too slow and lackluster. Technically, Call of the Conclave is strictly better, yet that sees virtually no play. Many creatures in the format are just more efficient.
