Is minotaur the new goblin deck in standard?

Standard forum

I believe minotaur has enough power in standard right now with Boros Charm and Legion's Initiative to do some really devestating mechanics in standard. Fanatic of mogis is maybe more devestating than Hellrider and only a uncommon. Check out what i'm thinking in Dance of the Minotaur.

Sorry Fanatic of Mogis check him out and imagine him entering with some +1/+1 bonuses and being exiled and returned on next combat due to Legion's Initiative . Lets also bring up mutavault which shares a type with minotaur which in the new meta is one of the few creatures that it gains a bonus from. I think the spear is the only other and yep thats in there too.

The biggest problem about this is that you have no one or two drop creatures, pretty much exactly the opposite of what made Goblins so damn annoying.

Moved to Standard forum.

Goblins are fast aggro creatures. Minotaurs are slow and lack any real cohesion and power. Only one or two Minotaurs in Standard even reference other Minotaurs, and there is only a single one-drop Minotaur.

@ The Doctor I agree this type will stack up like goblins late game but focus on anger of the gods early with mutavault acting early and getting bigger turn 4-5 . cant really invest in 1s and 2s if you plan on blowing up the field. If you look at the minotaur deck their is synergy with almost every part ressembling goblins in my veiw. Perhaps I just miss Goblin Chieftain and Rageblood Shaman reminds me of him. I dont agree with what Epoch said however in the new standard if you look at the deck I built the minotaurs work off one another with great synergy such as Reckoner is 3 red and 3 white at the same time making him the best 3 drop to play with Fanatic of Mogis also a minotaur and Rageblood Shaman helps all minotaurs see more value for thier cost and as soon as they are buffed Anger of the Gods is better. Rageblood shaman also makes Blaze Commando playable. If I took out the minotaurs for something else I dont think it would work.

Its just a discussion but dont be so quick to dismiss this idea. I for one am going to push minotaurs to thier limit on friday.

What's the 1-drop Minotaur Epochalyptik? Do you mean in standard or in any format?

@KingSorin: Sorry, I meant two-drop.

I'm not dismissing the idea that Minotaurs can be a deck (although I don't have faith in its success), I'm dismissing the idea that Minotaurs are the new Goblins. The two tribes do different things in different ways. They can't actually be compared like that.

I agree. I was just gatherer searched all of them in standard and theros and the lowest cost was Deathbellow Raider , which is probably what you were talking about. They are different in play style I agree. Minotaurs are quite a midrange style deck, winning around turn 6 with their +2/+0 haste lord, and goblins are more RRRRROOOOOOOAAAARRRRR CHHHARRRRRRRRRRGGGEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And turn 4 I have 15 goblinz gg

I just meant there are enough cohesive effects and minotaurs in standard now to make a deck where before they didnt print enough of a creature type like minotaurs to actually get anything that ressembles a theme of creature like goblins or vampires. I wasnt literaly comparing the way the decks function. Meant it more like Black...Its the new blue. You know, I know what I meant and i'm not mad but you shouldn't go out of your way to make somebody feel stupid. You run this site right? You don't have faith in my decks success..why don't you keep that to yourself.

@RedCloud2012: You take things too seriously.

First, it was entirely unclear what you meant when you compared Minotaurs to Goblins, so I assumed you meant they were functionally similar because they aren't really similar in any other ways. If you meant to argue that Minotaurs were finally getting support as a tribe, it would have been much clearer to just say that.

Second, I don't go out of my way to make others feel stupid. I didn't make you out to be stupid at all. Disagreeing with what you say is not the same as calling you an idiot.

Third, I don't have faith in the general success of Minotaurs as a tribe because, objectively speaking, they lack the support that makes other tribes strong. Minotaurs have only a handful of tribal support cards, and those cards aren't low enough on the mana curve to make Minotaurs fast. On top of that, very few of the Minotaurs available in Standard have decent power-to-cost ratios. Many of them are commons and uncommons that skip power in favor of flavor. I'm pointing these things out to you because you should be aware of them while designing and playing this deck.

Fourth, I help run the site, and that doesn't have anything to do with the current situation.

Fifth, deck help threads should be posted in Deck Help. I left this in Standard because the discussion is about Minotaurs in Standard rather than the deck you linked (I actually didn't even notice that you linked a deck until I began writing this post).

As a response to post 1:5, I disagree with you because you're misrepresenting how Goblins work. Goblins don't have a late game. They're an aggressive tribe, and they don't like to go beyond turn four or five (they are content with killing before then if possible). Standard Minotaurs is just beginning to play creatures by that point.

Also, Friday is going to be booster draft, not constructed. With very few exceptions, release day events are drafts. You'll probably need to wait until next Friday to test your deck in Standard.
