Is the Gruul Team doing well in standard right now?

Gruul for standard is what I am thinking of running

I don't think it's tier 1 (ie. not up there with mono-U, mono-B and W/U control), but it's still a viable deck. There's plenty of good stuff for it: Burning-Tree Emissary , Xenagos, The Reveler , Domri Rade and Stormbreath Dragon as a curve-topper.

You forgot about Xenagod.

G/R Monsters is the deck to beat in Standard and definitly teir 1. Took 1st at the SCG Open this past weekend. Look on starcitcy for a decklist from CVM yesterday or this is mine Get Yo Revel On.

With the addition of Courser of Kruphix and Xenagos, God of Revels , I think Gruul can compete with MUD and MBD for the "best" standard deck.

God, how much do I hate T1 Thoughtseize , T2 Duress , Thoughtseize , T3 Lifebane Zombie . But as a matter of fact, G/R is so strong right now, it can even beat that opening (not many decks can do that).

And this is why G/R Monsters is the best deck in Standard right now. The addition of Courser and Xenagod are huge in comparison to the addition of Bile Blight for MBD, Temple of Enlightenment and nothing for MUD. The shifting towards Bile Blight and away from Ultimate Price /Devour Flesh is a blessing for G/R. You can't impress me with -3/-3.

Desecration Demon is annoying, that's true and lot's of Tidebinder Mage s can hurt you in the early game as well as too many evolved Cloudfin Raptor s too quickly. But: you have a sideboard.

I've been running my own G/R build for the past few weeks and it's freaking NASTYYYYY. I run two Gruul Charm in my main board and it always catches people off guard. Just swing with everything and make it so that creatures without flying can't block and watch their eyes widen in horror. You can also use it for the 3 damage to each creature with flying which totally ruins monoblue's day.

For the that kind of build does Garruk, Caller of Beasts nessarely need to be a part of it? I have at least one of him and 2 Domri Rade . Xenagos, The Reveler

Gruul monsters, Gruul Team, Gruul aggro.... this combo's all aggro or some midrange?

Gruul midrange

ok

I think it's right on the edge of tier 1, and probably just in. It had a really strong showing at SCG St Louis with 3 of the top 4 spots, tho I still think it has bad matchups with MBD and UW. Since the deck that got 1st place didn't use any BotG cards on the mainboard, it will be interesting to see if that tournament is a preview of its upcoming dominance or simply a flash in the pan.

In regard to Garruk, Caller of Beasts , I think he's worth a couple slots since he helps in the aforementioned weak matchups. A 2-2-2 split between Domri, Xenagos, and Garruk is pretty solid.

I have accuired most of the gruul cards since gatecrash but I don't know how to play gruul midrange effectively because I was brought up as a aggro player.

@ChrisHansonBiomancin

G/R Monsters's best matchup is U/W Control with Stormbreath Dragon and Mistcutter Hydra in additon to 6-8 planeswalkers is almost impossible for it to handle.

MBD matchup seems to be a 60/40 split in favor of G/R. Too many threats for their removal a lot of time. Desecration Demon and Lifebane Zombie are amazing in this matchup.

MUD dominates G/R Monsters all day. This is it's bad matchup. The less MUD decks being played is why Monsters is spiking.

If you go the Jund route then the deck becomes a lot better with the addition of the black candy you can add in there. Dreadbore and Reaper of the Wilds specifically makes the R/G Monsters better in the mirror and then the Ultimate Price and Thoughtseize will be solid against MUD.
