Is there an under $50 deck?

Standard forum

I want to make a cheap Type II deck (Standard). Is there one that is competitive for under $50?

If so, what is it? Thank you!

Mono-Red Boss Sligh without the rabblemasters is cheap and probably at least tier 1.5 right now.

Do you have a good example of it that you could show me? HerderOfNerf

Your Nose Will Flow Like the River Nile

Just take out the Stoke's and replace them with something else, you should be fine. You can also replace Zurgo with Satyr Hoplite's for the 3 drop slot.

This is $53 and I'd definitely say it's competitive.

Thank you!

I will put one together today so that I can play FNM tomorrow. Should I even bother with a SB?

MindEcho Well, I would definitely TRY to make one, as it makes some matchups easier, but other than that, I don't think you NEED one. I've been at FNM's without a sideboard quite a few times. You can make your deck work as long as you know when to cast and what to cast.

Cheap SB for Mono-Red:
3 Arc Lightning
2 Bathe in Dragonfire
1 Goblin Heelcutter
3 Outpost Siege
3 Roast
2 Scouring Sands
1 Anger of the Gods

You might have to spend a few bucks on Outpost Siege but it is worth it in card advantage matchups

@omnipotato i just clicked buy now on that list you posted and it clocked in at over $75. Red isn't as cheap as everyone seems to think it is right now.

If you run Scouring Sands in your board, I would say do not run Anger of the Gods. If you are really that worried about Deathmist Raptor just use your burn spells to clear the way on it. If they really want to bring it back, fine. But they shouldn't have enough time to do so.

Behgz It's still the cheapest competitive deck there is. If it absolutely has to be below $50 you can cut the Eidolons but the deck will be worse.

You should be able to make a fairly competitive U/W Heroic deck for $50.

Azorius Heroic by Tom Ross will set you back over $200 if your starting from scratch.

Mardu warriors is a fairly grand deck that's not too expensive to make. Mine was somewhere around 40 bucks when I made it

Behgz That's mostly from the mana base though, you don't HAVE to run 4 Mana Confluence and 8 fetches. They help, and it makes the deck a lot smoother but the deck can function without them.

I've never brought it to an FNM, but I have had a lot of fun with my B/W Heroics for under $30: Heroic Fates

BW has better options for budget. Mine's under 20 - http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/17-05-15-MCT-warriors/ - and it rips up $100 decks. The only drop that it misses a tribal card is one, and that hardly counts. Extremely competeitive, cheap, and almost free if you know other people playing magic to help you with commons/uncommons. Haven't taken it to FNM but I've playtested dozens of times on untap.

I used to run U/W heroics myself and I still use it for casual play with my little cousin. It once beat a Selesnya aggro with playsets of Archangel of Thune, Fleecemane Lion, Brimaz, King of Oreskos, Voice of Resurgence, etc with it... the guy threw down his cards and stomped out of FNM.

U/W or G/w Heroic are both cheap and effective. MONO red is good but to me its almost worth it to put forth the money and time to make sure to include the rabblebastard. Also warriors is pretty cheap and can win games.

G/W heroics? I've never seen that. Monored is a great option as well, but it quickly slips out of an under $50 budget. Monastery Swiftspear, Goblin Heelcutter, Lightning Strike, Stoke the Flames, etc have made it a very good deck even if on a budget.

@ trf6 there was a version close to my Broken Scales deck that was budget and extremely good running around not so long ago. Wish i could remember the name of it. something like kicking butt for 20$ or something to that effect.

Assault Formation decks are fairly cheap. I went 3-1 at FNM with a mostly dirt cheap deck Abzan splashing for Siege Rhino and 3 fetches value wise. It runs effective commons with big butts and common removal. Card names are not on the top of my head at the moment or else I'd go into detail as to things to look into. Regardless the deck is a tad slow, but is otherwise hard to get through once you hit your 2/8 and then 8/8 off the invocation.
