Decklist here.
He makes a few interesting decisions.
4 Despise and only 2 Thoughtseize . Why? There can't be a logical reason for this right?
2 Drown in Sorrow in the mainboard. Jeskai and Abzan are the top decks - neither run important cards that die to this. Sure abzan will lose a few mana dorks maybe (wont hit caryatid though) but it's not going to kill anything else.
4 Disdainful Stroke in the mainboard. Against Jeskai it only hits Dig Through Time , Stoke the Flames and Sarkhan. Won't hit Mantis Rider or Goblin Rabblemaster . Seems peculiar to run 4-of when in one matchup it's not 100% effective.
Well if its 'not as good' against like half the meta then surely it's a sideboard card or worth only running 1-2?

ChiefBell the meta wasn't fully established yet, and Pro tours typically have different metas than most tournaments. In an interview he noted that Drown in Sorrow was great against a lot of the naya decks and the aggro decks. Disdainful Stroke is also really strong when trying to gain tempo after blowing up a vault.

remember now floch is still learning how to play magic without Sphinx's Revelation and Supreme Verdict . personally i would run a 50/50 split between Thoughtseize and Despise as 3 each. Disdainful Stroke hits a majority of the meta, i like it mainboard. Drown in Sorrow mainboard is really in anticipation of mardu aggro / devotion stall.

Drown in sorrow hits seeker of the way and rabblemaster, 2 huge cards for jeskai.

I would like to see Whelming Wave as a sideboard in this deck, not because of its cute interaction with PLA, but because it's great tempo against lots of aggro decks. I feel like that's part of the reason that so few control lists made it to the top (and 0 to top 8), because they lost earlier rounds to aggressive decks

Despise doesn't cost life and mostly you want to get rid of creatures or planeswalkers anyway in a creature heavy meta. Also, Drown in Sorrow wrecks Goblin Rabblemaster , hits elspeth tokens, and sometimes kills Seeker of the Way . It also provides protection against random token decks and mono black aggro.

Seems to me that if you are going to run control in this meta it should be UW or BUW , not BU , i do not see any reason not to run End Hostilities or a few Banishing Light plus i believe and correct if i am wrong he was not running Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver ? am surprised he got as far as he did

The meta was predicted to be more creature based so that is the main reason for despise. Drown in sorrow acts a mini sweeper for dorks and maybe some other things that could have been run but that is why Perilous Vault was in the deck. Disdainful Stroke is great against the Abzan decks. Stops Rhino and wingmate as well as a few other spot cards. Just because it isn't as good against Jeskai doesn't mean that it is a bad card to put in
