Izzet Control?

I played Izzet Blitz pre-rotation, and started transforming it into control as the rotation came closer.
Is Izzet Control a viable deck style right now? I'm sure it's not as strong as other control styles, especially Esper. But I haven't seen anyone playing it at all. Which is strange.

Yeah, I think UWR will outclass it for as long as RtR is in Standard. I think Born of the Gods will definitely power up Izzet, I'm just not sure how. I was going to start working on a list. Checking yours out now, thanks!

It's not terrible, but it's not super great either. There's someone at my LGS that runs one to generally good effect. It's got plenty of early interaction for the aggro decks and mainboard Counterflux let's you force things to the board in control mirrors. The biggest issue with the deck is mid-range. Once sufficiently large creatures hit the board it has a much harder time removing them. Turn / Burn is the only clean answer for a lot of creatures, otherwise it has to start 2 for 1-ing which is the opposite of what a control deck needs to be doing.
And while Anger of the Gods and Mizzium Mortars are ok, they just aren't Supreme Verdict . That's really the big danger of playing Izzet, it lacks the big efficient stabilization cards. It's fine if it never stumbles, but it really struggles once it starts falling behind since it has little that can get it back in the game on its own.

Supreme Verdict and Sphinx's Revelation are the cards that really make uw the colors for control atm. They are just too good to pass on.

And Detention Sphere . As a U/B player, I miss those 3 cards sorely.

You would most likely be better off adding white just for Supreme Verdict and Sphinx's Revelation . I tried my own but ended up going U/W/R just because it allowed for the better answers. The Wizard Does America if you'd like to look

Izzet Staticaster definately seems like a great sideboard against Master of Waves . And between blue and blue red (and even red if you don't mind discard downside) you can find plenty of draw, just not the life-gain. So it's more the Supreme Verdict effect that's missing I think.

Just remember to name the Elementals, not the Master himself, since prot red makes Staticaster ineffective head-on.

i played an Izzet deck my last time home at one of the FNM and got donkey stomped but it wasnt control based as per say. It tested well but in action fell apart to win cons rather quickly. As far as Master of Waves goes i was able to take him and all his tokens out with a combo of Skullcrack and and overloaded Electrickery . The decks i got beat down by were running AEtherling or Obzedat, Ghost Council and once they hit the board i was screwed. Maybe more control would have worked better in those match ups. I could see it being a doable deck with the Spellheart Chimera and a couple of walkers to help things along.

I've been trying to make Izzet work too, and here's what I've come up with.
Izzet The Business End?
I haven't assembled it IRL, and it doesn't really bring much to the table over Esper, or even U/W or U/B control. Let me know if you come up with something, but I just don't think we have the right cards for it. Maybe Born of the Gods will bring us some tasty Izzet things, but my guess would be they will just be outperformed by U/W/R control anyways.
