I was extremely excited today when I checked the m14 spoilers page and saw Jace, Memory Adept listed as coming back. Same with Ajani, Caller of the Pride , Liliana of the Dark Realms . Looks like there will be a new Chandra and Garruk.

I feel like they needed something to try and synergize with Dimir's mill sub-theme.

I hope we get a GOOD Chandra. A chick that Koth would be proud to party with.

tmloyd, I think milling ten on a planeswalker for 0 sounds like some synergy to me.

landgrafb, lol Tibalt would join in on the fun too!

Honestly pretty disappointed not to see Jace Beleren , but I guess they don't want to overshadow a new Chandra with a good Jace...

@TheLameSauce: You say that like Jace, Memory Adept isn't a win-condition on his own.

Yeah, i dont see how Jace Beleren is in any way better than Jace, Memory Adept ...if you get him out thats terrifying...my friend runs 3 in his dirmir mill deck and you've pretty much lost if he manages to resolve him

Jace Beleren is infinitely better than Jace, Memory Adept ; the simple fact that he is a 3-mana planeswalker makes him very powerful (look at Liliana of the Veil ), and playing him, then going draw, draw, we both draw, draw, draw, we both draw etc. is insane.

Yes this. Jace, Memory Adept is good assuming you can get and keep him in play, but the chances of him affecting the game, especially against control, are significantly lower. Even not factoring in what your opponent does to deal with them, getting to use a planeswalker two extra times is very relevant.

The only time I thought Jace Beleren was better was when Sun Titan was still around and legal in STD.

Nowadays, there are plenty of card draw options so you need more of a win con for decks like Dimir Mill, Grixis, Esper Control when they are playing other control decks as 10 per turn is MUCH faster than 1 or even 2 Nephalia Drownyard . The turn clock matters in mirror matches or control vs control as you will not usually get through all 3 games without it and end up taking a draw or even a loss due to you not being able to close out game 2 after losing game 1

@harrydemon117: this is true, but they fulfill different roles; Jace Beleren is a utility card, not a wincon, and you would not run it over a wincon. I also think AEtherling is a better wincon than Jace MA since Jace can be interacted with, and milling isn't the best vs decks running Unburial Rites , Lingering Souls , Think Twice , Snapcaster Mage , etc.

Not again...

(Jace isn't a bad card, but seeing it for the past 3 years...)

I say they should let Jace go (for now out of Core) and bring back Gideon Jura .

I miss him in my control decks...

Why remove the blue planeswalker so there can be 2 white ones?

With the new PW rules coming in M14, Jace, Memory Adept is becoming a little more powerful.

Cast Jace, mill 10.... next turn, mill 10, cast another Jace, mill another 10.

It's the 0 loyalty tokens that help here... Ajani and Liliana can't use the same -3 ability 2 turns in a row, unless you've used the +1 a few times. You can still use the ability twice on the same turn by using, then casting, then using again... but milling for 30 in rapid succession is (in my opinion) a little more powerful than 2 creatures getting Flying and Doublestrike, or 2 creatures getting +X/+X for a turn.

With 3 Jace's it's mill 50 cards in 3 turns.... used to be 30 at most without another way of killing him off.

We'll have to wait and see if Chandra and/or Garruk can effectively be used like this.
