Land destruction post Theros

So I got to thinking with the new defender that generates mana, would it be viable to run them and use land destruction spells to take over a game?
Sylvan Caryatid and Axebane Guardian as mana generators and then destroy lands with Encroaching Wastes or other effects?
The problem I see with this is the lack of strong LD cards that will make it worth while. Encroaching Wastes is an expensive Tectonic Edge .... spells like Bramblecrush and Demolish are too expensive also. Then after that how many other ld cards to fill slots.

It'd essentially have to be a midrange deck that instead of using larger creatures you're blowing up their land ramping into something like Melek or Epic Experiment
as an endgame.
Where I see struggles is your midrange creature drops usually function as sturdy blockers for the little guys you killed early. LD spells don't do that very well. Bring back Goblin Ruinblaster !

Theres a promo theros card with "destroy target permanent" for 1BW. Just a thought.

That card isn't in Theros and is not Standard legal. Vindicate s last Standard printing was more than a decade ago. There is simply a new judge promo version being released.

I'd be building me some Orzhov control if Vindicate was to ever get a reprint.
Too strong for standard these days though.

I was thinking more along the lines of adding planeswalkers to the mix and running it like a "defender Fog " style deck with land destruction. Too bad Fog wasn't reprinted...

Maybe even a defender ramp deck using Colossus of Akros as one of its win cons?

Frenzied Tilling although it is expensive...they lose 1 land, you gain 1 land...it can get ugly fast...

@khanye....I've noticed G/R seems to be the land destruction mode of choice. Maybe ramp isn't dead especially if we keep using those :)

yeah if you actually click on Fog you'll find m14 under its printings.

Oh I saw that, but usually the "preview" thumbnail shows its most recent printing. They're probably still working out all the bugs for the Theros cards.

I actually like that idea, BUT, Include it together with Melek, Izzet Paragon and we've got a deal. :)
