Making Ruric Thar work!

I've always loved Ruric Thar, the Unbowed and want to build a standard R/G monsters deck with him in there as a 2 to 4 of but don't have access to Domri Rade or Garruk, Caller of Beasts , so I was wondering how to make a deck work with that in mind. Would love to get the deck competitive to take to a FNM
I appreciate all suggestions!
Ruric Thar, the Unbowed is great, especially against any control deck. If I were you, I would go for something built around Elvish Mystic , Burning-Tree Emissary , Ghor-Clan Rampager , Stormbreath Dragon , Polukranos, World Eater and Xenagos, The Reveler . Throw in a couple Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and you've got a solid G/R monsters deck.

@kmcree Would you go Burning-Tree Emissary over a guy like Zhur-Taa Druid ???

Check out Get More Head in the description tells how to get back end CMC out early. Just change some cards around add old Ruric Thar out early.

I honestly would, because it comes down a turn sooner, and the ping for 1 isn't really as relevant in this kind of a deck. You're going to be hitting with such heavy creatures that the extra 1 probably won't make a huge difference. Also, BTE gives 2 devotion to green or red for Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx , and since you have to pick one of the colors, the druid would only give 1 devotion.

My build, which i haven't uploaded yet, has 2 Rurics, 4 Zhur-Taa Druid , 4 Elvish Mystic and 4 Burning-Tree Emissary . With a couple of three-four drops before the six and seven drops. Works great. So, i dont think you have to choose Emissary over druids, why not go with both of 'em?

green devotion. Karametra's Acolyte + Axebane Guardian + Sylvan Caryatid + Courser of Kruphix + other defenders and ramp. Elvish Mystic and mana dorks will make casting him early a snap.

with M13 Ruric Thar, the Unbowed used to be able to be played by T3 but now the fastest is T4 i believe, for a deck centered on Ruric Thar, the Unbowed dont play much noncreature spell of course and need some mana acceleration of any combination of thiese guys:

I run Ruric Thar, the Unbowed in the sideboard of my Modern ramp deck. They're awesome.

What do you mean by "a 2 to 4 of" ? You could try devotion or ramp to get him out earlier.
