Metallic Mimic is being overlooked!

Metallic Mimic is a very easy to cast 2 drop that can become an instant nightmare in most if not all tribal aggro decks. This pertains mostly to to modern but will hold weight in standard. Just one to consider as the cost is generally low but climbing as it gains popularity.

Why would this ever see play in Modern? The only really competitive tribal deck is Merfolk and they have plenty of Lords already that offer more.

Actually I would say elves is just as competitive as merfolk although less played mostly due to the fact that the people who play merfolk have been playing it since before elves was a deck. That being said I dont really see this card as a must. Why would I want a card that gives me value only after I cast it and then the other creatures instead of a static +1/+1 effect

elves is a decent deck also, but again has the lords. Ally decks with Collected Company might work though. And some edh/casual players do like to run tribal decks, so it may get up to $4-5, more if tribal decks top standard.

I think an aetherborn tribal deck would be pretty sweet in standard! Not very competetive, but you can have 4 mimics boosting all aetherborns, not to mention Midnight Entourage boosting aetherbornes!

And this set does have some sweet aetherbornes, Gifted Aetherborn, not to mention Yahenni, Undying Partisan

The card isn't even legal yet! You can't overlook something that no one has had a chance to play!

Well you still can overlook it. Prices show what people want to play and that guy currently sits on 2Euro / 3$. If Dwarf-Tribal goes through the roof, it'll jump up.

I would compare it to Adaptive Automaton and say that is too overhyped for its abilities. Lord are defined as providing a static boost to creatures of the same type, usually accompanied by some other ability, ie Merfolk Sovereign. This is not a lord, but much worse.

Its ability triggers for each card played after it, meaning it provides 0 boost to permanents already on battlefield. It less like a lord and more like a worse version of Thalia's Lieutenant. It provides does not provide any other ability.

All of this means it requires you to play 3+ cards after it in order for this card to become worth it. If something you play requires 3+ cards to be good and is the worst topdeck ever, it means it is a bad card.

I would sell these quite fast if I had them. $0.5 seems like the highest price they will command in a month from now.

they are only 50 cents in the us? Huh, we currently have them for 3Euro in europe.

No, I meant they are a couple of bucks now, but they would be $0.5 very soon once prerelease hype dies down.

Gottcha. Well, since they're so low I'd just keep them for now. Worst case is you'd lose 3$ for a playset or something like that.

This card is meant for token generators and aggro tribal. Where I believe it actually tops lords is that it provides counters vs the potential loss of the +1/+1 ability. This card can cause major problems where many creatures are being generated. For standard, thopters and servos will be a problem. Sram's Expertise and Animation Module are worth looking into.

I mean the combo with Animation Module is pretty cool for standard, then add in that B/W enchant and you have a 3 card Thopter/Sword combo in standard.

I think it is more than fine with allies. It gains ally typing, triggers ally abilities (making it act like a lord for allies in play that get +1/+1 counters as their triggered ability), and then gives other allies a +1/+1 counter upon etb in addition to their etbs -- which feels a lot like a lord. Hardened Scales sees play in allies, and Metallic Mimic feels like hardened scales that can be hit by Collected Company.

I could also potentially see it in faeries -- a tribe without a ton of lords, a tribe that likes to flicker its own creatures in and out of play with Mistbind Clique, and Quickling (the deck also likes Fatal Push for this reason), and is a tribe that can abuse +1/+1 counters with Oona's Blackguard to cripple an opponent's already limited options. The only downside is that it cannot be flashed in like other faeries. But it does have a nasty interaction with Glen Elendra Archmage.

Merfok is a solid deck, but so are the Elves. I do not consider myself to know much about Legacy, but I have seen and heard of Legacy Elves. Not Legacy Merfolk.

In addition to Metallic Mimic I feel that it will be a great addition to all sorts of tribal decks as seeing it is colorless. Printing this and Gifted Aetherborn make me think that Vampires now have what they sort of need (low cmc lords). This also solves the "Vampire Nighthawk" problem. It gives you a card that wont die to a 2 toughness creature that can be a 3/4 with the Mimic. Paired with something like Stromkirk Captain, Falkenrath Gorger, and Vampire Lacerator Make for some "Sweet Beats." They get the additional +1/+1, so it is a pseudo lord. Still a good thing. The Gifted Aetherborn may trade with a Tarmogoyf and maybe survive bolt. But that is just me.
