Is that mono black aetherborn tribal deck that wedge from the mana source put together worth the effort to build? Seems like a lot of cool synergy but I don't know the standard meta (been playing modern for last 2 years) and can't tell if it is any good in the current meta.

For those that ar unfamiliar, here's the link to the primer

Waste of time?

Personally I think Aetherborn Marauder isn't a very good card. It just steals +1+1 counters from your other mons that can become indestructible. You're better off running Gonti, Lord of Luxury. I actually have an aetherborn deck that is different from Wedge's deck. Born of Black Aether.

I disagree with you on Aetherborn Marauder. Lifelink is nothing to sneeze at and when you can move counters to it and make it huge, that's gonna be hard for a lot of decks to deal with.

I have my own plans for the deck as far as upgrades go, but I just want some opinions on wether or not it's worth it to build the deck.

Like I said in my post, I haven't okay end standard in 2 years, and I haven't been following it. All I know from my research is that mardu vehicles and copy cat combo are the only decks anyone is talking about. I have been detached for too long.

Mono anything is going to be a bit under prepared for standard meta. B/G counter aetherborn with Snake could be alot better or even Dimir is going to put you in alot better shape to handle the different match ups currently popular. Maybe Combine the two, run Sultai just to splash a few control cards. The lands are there, so take advantage of them.

I thought about red black aetherborn so I can run Harnessed Lightning. but that seems kind of underwhelming without an energy based theme.

Sultai would be cool, but I feel like it would be diluting the concept of the deck, with the servo and sacrificing and everything. Cutting back any of it makes me feel like I should just make something else, which is besides the point.

I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I don't want to get wrecked, either. Standard has always been a pain point in price which is why I don't okay it. It's so expensive to keep up.

Looking at the most recent top 8 results and I am disgusted by how much of the meta is copy cat and vehicles. I almost don't even want to bother

It all depends on your local meta.

If you meta is full of Copy Cat, Mardu Vehicles, and Snek Deck then no, this deck won't be competitive enough.

If you have a more casual and diverse meta, then this deck will win a few games, and be fun to play.

I would check what the local meta is like with your LGS before building it.

Make sure you have Ruinous Path, To the Slaughter, and Murder in one of your boards.

Harsh Scrutiny and Transgress the Mind are also worth a look.

You will probably need to tweak the original list a little bit to match your local meta.
