what would anyone think of a mono black extort deck? with cards like Liliana of the Dark Realms , Crypt Ghast and Pontiff of Blight could a mono black extort/control deck be possible? and even possibly awesome?

Yes its possible and very feasible but overall not worth it extorts greatest benefit is having white in it too for the combo of Vizkopa Guildmage and Exquisite Blood

I think it could work, why not? I would think it could work, I traded for 3 Pontiff of Blight just for that reason. Black is a pretty strong color, and now with the added ramp I think it could be done. Added with some shenanigans like Immortal Servitude , and built around 2 drops, the possibilities are crazy.

I think that a white splash for at least Blind Obedience is worthwhile. That card is the only non-creature extort and it just does a huge amount of work for you all the time.

But when all of your creatures have extort, is the splash for one non-creature extort really worth it?

I would easily say yes. And that isn't even for the extort trigger.

If you play things like Mutilate then you get to keep an extort trigger handy at all times regardless. Even if you don't care at all about the trigger it is the debilitating half of Urabrask the Hidden stapled onto a 2cmc rare that singlehandedly gives you range by hosing haste and forcing more time into combat arrangements to allow yourself to work out a more favorable position as well as disallowing flashed in blockers ( Snapcaster Mage , Restoration Angel ) to allow you to push through more damage before you wipe (As they can't block with, say, their Miracled Entreat the Angels tokens, or other similar 'must be wiped' scenarios).

(On a less impactful note, it also hazes mana rocks like Chromatic Lantern and things like Gilded Lotus )

A friend of mine plays that card in all of his decks that can support it and, honestly I can't fault him for it as it is so straight up powerful that it doesn't require inherent synergy. It costs two but gives you turns and turns of value, and, even when you already have one out you, at worst, get another extort trigger. I honestly feel like its one of the most criminally under-rated cards of the set.

yes indeed becuase now you get a infinite combo,a enchant that makes all opponent creatures come in tapped (screw you radkos) and more controlling.

Fair points, if that was the case, the only change I would make in my mono black would be to run Godless Shrine or Isolated Chapel or combos of both to bring in that.

Blind Obedience is easily Extort at its finest. Such an incredible card that puts the brakes on aggro and stops flashed in blockers. All extort decks should carry this if not Mb than Sb

I've got a deck that uses Pontiff of Blight , similar to what you're thinking... it's not mono-black... but it's not white either.

Using Blue for AEtherling draw effects, also allows for use of Hidden Strings . Untapping Swamp s and Watery Grave s make for more mana out than the spell costs.

I've managed to cast Griselbrand Extorted for 9, and still have mana for a Forbidden Alchemy Extorted for 5 at the end of the opponents next turn.

Deck: Heartless Strings
