My first Friday Night Magic win

I'm pretty well unknown here on tappedout, but I wanted to share that I started playing MT:G this year and, last Friday (July 12th), I finally came in 1st Place at FNM with an undefeated record!! Woo hooo. It took a long time.

This is the deck I used:

Wuxia Secret Sword Manual

U/G/W Enchantments

I bought two GoSTs last night and recently removed the breeding pool for another island and took out the Loxodon Smiters to put in the Trafts.

Congratulations!

Do you have a play-by-play description of how the rounds went down? I'd love to hear it.

Unfortunately, no. FNMs out here are always strapped for time because the shop closes at 8pm and matches start at 6pm.

However, I went up against;1) A Maze's End (2-0): Fencing Ace with Spectral Flight, Ethereal Armor and Unflinching courage.

2)Then a Selesnya deck, that gave me some fright with Selesnya Charms and VoRs (2-0): Loxodon Smiter with Ethereal Armor, Rancor soulbonded to silverblade paladin.

3) Final Match against my MT:G Teacher (I started playing this year, and he taught me everything I know about the game.) Jund Midrange (2-1) Final game he got me down to one life from 12 by trying to sac everything on the board with blood artist and he was at 8 life. However, I had too many enchantments on a Loxodon Smiter with flying and Trample.

Fencing Ace believe it or not was always the key card in every match. Double Strike, Flying, Unflinching courage, Ethereal armor attached to him early game pretty much seals it unless he gets bounced or destroyed by Selesnya Charm.

A deck that tries to win with Maze's End is actually fairly viable right now, provided it doesn't play against too much aggro.

Against control, you essentially have a 10-turn clock that your opponent can't interact with.

unless they tap it with tamiyo or destroy it with ghost quarter. In order for it to work there has to be multiple Mazes Ends employed because they can't be used on the same turn they come into play.

I guess they could be untapped with Hidden Strings or Ral Zarek

That Maze's End deck the first time I played it, a couple of weeks before, was a pain. I watched him next to me last Friday, He had 40 or so soldier tokens on his field because of two or three assemble the legions. But If I recall, he got boardwiped a few times during his matches.

Congrats man, thats awesome that you came in first. Ive been going to FNM for over a year now and ive still never come in first, even though Ive gone undefeated a bunch of times.
