Heeeyy,
I've played edh for years an it has been the only format I played but I was curious about other format and my mates are playing standard so I was wondering where I should start.
Should I buy boxes from the most recent sets, buy singles, should I netdeck someone or try to build something on my own?
Thanks

Standard isn't a casual environment, and rogue decks are pretty rare. Depends on if you're only playing with friends, basically.

Always buy singles, never packs (unless you’re intending to draft). Standard is usually a pretty homogenized format so you’re going to be best at least basing your list on a known contender.

Talk to your local game store owner/employees, they'll typically send you down the right path. My own LGS would even help build something based on the meta in my area within my budget. Maybe yours will do that, or maybe they can suggest someone in the area who might help you build a list. Once the list is built its just about buying the singles. Dont buy boxes unless you're gunna draft or do sealed, you wont hit what you need and itll just be more expensive.

This is a good question!
I would say it entirely depends how competitive you and your playgroup want to be. If you're trying to stay somewhat casual, in a commander-reminiscent way, then building your own deck is probably the best way to go.
But if you're playing for power, then turning to the vast intellectual database that is the internet is gonna be better. There's no shame in netdecking--a lot of smart people out there spend a lot of time figuring out good decks, and taking a leaf or 60 from their books is a great way to get games in with powerful decks.
