New Standard-Aether Revolt
Standard forum

It's kinda early, with only a handful of cards spoiled for the new set coming out next month. But what does everybody think the new standard meta will be? I'm sure the regular blue white flash/spirits will be viable as well as aetherworks marvel. But with this new set it seems like there will be a lot of planeswalkwr synergy. I'm sensing a super friends deck meta coming on. The vehicle that can be cast with a loyalty counter. Oath of Ajani letting you cast planeswalkers for 1 less. I think it'll be a green, blue, and white planeswalker meta. Maybe white, blue and red.Or possibly blue and black. With some red in it? For the new Tezzeret. What do you all think???
Yahenni's Expertise is an insane card. Control is going to have a field day with it.
As for Superfriends, Naya looks like the best colors so far because it gives you all the best planeswalkers and the best support. However Superfriends is an expensive archetype and so even if it does become common, it won't be everywhere for the simple fact of most people can't afford $500-$600 decks which is what my KLD Superfriends deck averages out to be.

Kiortio That's a pretty bold prediction considering we've seen something like 12 cards from Aether Revolt, which is less than 6% of the set.

I dont think superfriends is that expensive right now. You can get a play set of Dovin Baan for cheap, as well as Kiora, Master of the Depths, Tamiyo, Field Researcher is a little more expensive, Saheeli Rai is pretty cheap too.
I think that a GWU superfriends deck is very plausible. There are a ton of great planeswalkers in those colors to choose from, especially from the new Ajani coming out.

I play a Mardu Superfriends currently... Which is as expensive as I said. I know because I designed it and bought it. Also Bant doesn't have access to any good board wipes under 5 mana currently which is a huge factor for control in the current meta.

maybe sultai superfriends could be a thing, have to try a build, what do you guys think?

I think any deck will need blue in it, blue is so powerful right now especially with things like Spell Queller and Reflector Mage. Not to mention all the negates and the new blue counter spell coming out.

Rogue_Titan Blue is the weakest colour in standard right now. The two most played blue cards, the ones you mentioned, Reflector Mage and Spell Queller are equal parts white and blue while white also has Thraben Inspector, Toolcraft Exemplar, Gideon, Ally of Zendikar and Archangel Avacyn Flip. Blue has hardly anything. It really is too early to predict standard changes, and especially when the changes you are all predicting are so radical and not even supported by the limited Aether Revolt spoilers. Superfriends? That's unplayable right now, and the planeswalkers spoiled won't suddenly make it good.

pumpkinwavy Superfriends unplayable??? In what world are you living in? I consistently get top 3 at FNM with a Superfriends. Oath of Ajani does a lot for superfriends if you're willing to run green. Bant Walkers sounds pretty disgusting: Nissa, Gideon, Tamiyo, Ajani and Jace together with at least two of those oaths and some other value creatures looks really powerful. You could also go Naya for a more agressive playstyle topping out with Chandra and Nissa on turn 3 dropped together... Oath of Nissa into Oath of Ajani into Chandra, Torch of Defiance +1 for mana and then cast Nissa, Voice of Zendikar.. Thats insane to have by turn 3. Just because you don't understand how something can work doesn't mean it won't be back breaking. Also Gideon, Ally of Zendikar is the singular most played card at high level events in all the top 16s of the whole year by a lot. Dropping him for 3 mana is crazy, straight up broke. Don't tell me Superfriends won't be crazy lol.

Well, we have different ideas of what unplayable means then. I would call r/g energy an unplayable deck, but sure you could win an fnm with it.
I agree that Oath of Ajani will be a bump to the deck, but mana is too rough for the deck to work, and planeswalkers in general are pretty poorly positioned.
Gideon, Ally of Zendikar is a great card but works best when you are on the offensive, something I don't see happening very often with superfriends.
I would love for the deck to be good as much as you would but I'm just trying to be realistic.

I agree with both of you, superfriends is going to be nuts, so much synergy possible. But as long as Emrakul, the Promised End is around, superfriends will more than likely not take FNM top deck. Emrakul is so disgusting right now, them taking your turn will kill all your planeswalkers.
As much as I want superfriends to be the new Meta, it wont beat emrakul. :(

Rogue_Titan, it definitely seems that way, but speaking from experience as long as it isn't a turn 4 Emrakul through Marvel, I have yet to lose to one... Yeah they definitely set me back more than any other card, but it still has a lot of tools to fight through an Emrakul, especially with more than one Walker out.

I definitely will probably give it a try, as I do have a foil Chandra, Torch of Defiance lying around without a place in a deck, along with 4x Liliana, the Last Hope, 1x foil Arlinn Kord Flip, 2x Dovin Baan, 2x Nissa, Voice of Zendikar, 2x Jace, Unraveler of Secrets, 1x Nissa, Vital Force, 1x Sorin, Grim Nemesis, 1x Ob Nixilis Reignited, as a start towards one. Plus plenty of duel lands.
I will have even more stuff for it after I buy an AER box, and attend likely 3 prereleases. I was wanting to do 5 colour, but I think I'm going to have to force myself to make it at the least 4 color or even just 3.

Im feeling pretty good about a B/U/W superfriends. That or like i mentioned earlier a G/W/U deck. Maybe even the W/R might be pretty popular too. We shall see

Bant is looking the best to me currently as far as superfriends goes but I'm likely going to switch up styles since I've been playing Superfriends for a few months now.

I'm sensing that standard will continue to be a steaming pile. Everyone will continue to play Emrakul, Avacyn and the like. The only thing that will change is that the good decks will probably just get better.
