Hi guys and gals I am new here and to MTG in general. I have purchased far too many cards recently and was hoping to take a deck to my LHS for FNM this week. I know I will get thrashed for a while but was hoping I could build a deck from the cards I have already purchased. Is there an easy way to figure this out, I was told to try Standard as a new player. I have added all of my cards to the Inventory tool.

and your inventory isn't public because you are too new. Hmm how about following my basic guidelines above and creating a deck. Once you do that make sure it is public and either link it here or just comment and I will be by to look at it and maybe talk you through tweaking it.

Thanks for the tips, I will create a deck and make it public.

On by the way I double checked the stores website and it states FNM Standard 6pm and FNM Modern 7pm.

I wrote an article a few years back that outlines what I think makes for a successful first few tournaments. (I took the readers through deck-building... you obviously wouldn't be building that deck for today's Standard, but I think the lessons are still there.) It's a read, but it's worth it.

Thanks for the great article Zandl, it is very well written and has some great information for a new player. I was planning on building an Aggro deck for my first deck and wanted to make it as simple as possible but based on the cards I already own I do not think this is possible prior to FNM this week. I also thought that my Inventory would be available to view, as mentioned by Gidgetimer it has something to do with how new I am to this site.I did find a simple Red Aggro deck and will try and link to it in my next post.

I would add another 8-12 creatures in the deck If at all possible.
Another aggro deck that is really fun is red/green. Idk what cards you have in green but its a very deck style to build because it can be very aggro or turn very grindy midrange quickly. (Look for werewolf cards and other lower cmc cards and pump spells)

Thanks for all the feeback so far, it looks like I need to find more creatures in general for the R/B deck, I will see what I have.
I had a go at making a G/W deck too, no idea about this one.Woodland Creatures are Cute?

Deck building is a bit of an art. There is no easy way to figure out a deck that will work well. That being said, as long as you don't mind losing a lot as you learn how decks function, you could pick the two colors you like the best. Then take what you feel are the best 38 cards you have in those colors. Add in lands in proportion to the color requirements. And as long as all of your cards are standard legal you have yourself a deck that you can take to a standard FNM.
I would check and make sure that the FNM you go to is standard though. If you take a loose brew like I described to a modern or legacy FNM you are almost guaranteed to not have a good time. Other problems will arise if the FNM is draft or Commander as well.
I don't know much about Standard but I can take a look at what you have in a little bit and see if I can build something out of it. Your best bet when building a deck is usually to generate the idea and then buy singles. I realize it is a bit too late for that now. But for future reference.
