People Hating on Languish
Standard forum

So in multiple threads, I've seen TONS of people just outright hating on Languish. And I honestly don't get it. I have a couple of theories, some nicer than others.
1) people being sore that we still don't have a Damnation reprint. Do we honestly think they will reprint that in something other than a modern master style set?
2) I'm missing something as far as how it will fit in standard
3) people don't like the fact that it doesn't fit well in modern (kind of a throwback to my #1 I know but still a fair point I think)
I firmly believe that Languish will find a great home in any control deck in standard that runs black (so most of them).
I just can't get past the fact that, in my mind at least, it GREATLY improves controls matchup against aggro, and can even hurt midrange, regardless of the style of control you are playing.
Abzan can play it and not have to worry about hurting Tasigur, the Golden Fang and their Siege Rhinos
can run it almost without hesitstion.
Sultai can run it almost as unfettered as UB AND rebuy it with Den Protector if needed in a pinch.
So I ask, where do you fall with this card and am I missing something?

I haven't seen hating on it. I've seen discussions about the price (which, almost by definition, involves a discussion about its use in Standard), but nobody trashing the card. The decks that want it, WANT it. It's a strong card for Standard.

I hate it... but just because I wanna play elves without them getting washed away on turn 4.

Yeah, I haven't really seen anybody be that unhappy with the card. Wizards has pretty much stated that the 4-mana kill-everything wrath is not going to show up in standard again for a while and this is what we get instead.
All in all, pretty excited to play this in my Abzan deck. It's like a 4 cmc Duneblast except you can only pick Siege Rhino.

I keep saying it and I'll say it again, Magic Origins will be divided into two categories: decks that will play Languish and decks that will try to beat it. I haven't heard any hating on the card yet but I'm pretty sure it's coming.
Abzan and U/B Supremacy!

Im definitely side boarding this card in my modern Grixis control decksince i dont want to spend 50+ for damnation and it doesnt kill Tasigur or your fishy so thats even more incentive over Damnation. IMO

Maybe people "hating" on it was a little strong but it's nice to see some like minded people.
I'm with you EssTea. That's exactly how I feel about it.

@AwesomeSean: Not being able to kill Tarmogoyf kinda defeats the point of Damnation in a deck like that though.

As far as Standard is concerned, Languish is a bomb. The haters will be eating their words soon enough. I can't comment on Modern since I don't have that kind of money :)

It is perfect for my Abzan control deck. Abzan Renown Rhinos
I fear Day's Undoing the most as it removes my ability to delve effectively.

Even in modern there's a decent argument for running it in grixis (weakest argument for it, but angler and tasigur are safe), jund (tasigur and tarmogoyf are safe), and Abzan (rhino, goyf and tasigur are safe). In any of these it would probably be little more than a sideboard card, though.

Languish is good. There is no reason to hate on it.
Others have hinted at it, but it has an advantage over Damnation since it can remove indestructible creatures.

Who is hating on languish? It's not a bad card by any stretch.
