I have some extra time so I want to playtest my U/R Devotion deck against some others so if you want me to test and give a summery of the game just post your deck.

Here's the deck I'm using btw:

Heroic Grix Mix, if you don't mind

My deck, Synthetic Mind Decay, is a blue/black control mill deck. I've had success with it.

deck-large:Heroic Grix Mix

Both rolled 15, just had to throw that in for kicks, Grix starts.

First Game Grix got an early Akroan Crusader , then Agent of Fates and my guys just god saced after that, taking 4 each turn and that was that.

The second round the crusader was taken out early and the agent was not drawn, the game ended with a Purphoros, God of the Forge into Master of Waves .

The last round Grix was flooded to hell, after the first crusader was killed the game was over.

The games were pretty even, though with heroic you usually want at least 15 creatures, and Rakdos, Lord of Riots was a dead draw in the first and last games.

Yeah, I've noticed that he tends to be on most occasions, so I'm looking to replace him and a Akroan Crusader with 2x Stormbreath Dragon a much more useful and versatile top end

November 5, 2013 7:21 p.m.

CW says... #6

Stormbreath is crazy definitely an upgrade.

The next playtest is gonna be up in a bit.

go ahead and give this deck a try.. it's something different and I've had some pretty good success in a casual environment with it so I'm curious to see up against something a little more competitive.

Surf went first.

The game was going insanely for Decay, tossing out an asshole Desecration Demon , but surf tossed out 2 Master of Waves with only their own devotion, plus 3 elementals from Young Pyromancer , the game was ended with a huge rush from 6 3/3s against a 23/23 Consuming Aberration at 10 life, and surf at 5.

Second round Decay just killed everything and swing with a bunch of Omenspeaker s for game, Decay was left at 8 since I kept Magma Jet ing the dome for scry, then when I got a creature up there it was hit with Breaking / Entering .

Third round was left at Desecration Demon turn 4 and no flyers.

The Turn / Burn is the only thing other than counterspells and Cyclonic Rift that can take the demon out and it just want happening for me.

Good Job, the deck seems pretty solid, I can't use sideboard though so it may have been a different outcome once I saw the demon for the first time since I would have sided some more counters and one last Turn / Burn .

This match was nice.

First round the devotion was going off everywhere with a turn 4 Thassa, God of the Sea rush and a turn 5 Purphoros, God of the Forge , the Frostburn Weird s were all over the place.

In the end Surf won with a Master of Waves chillin with Purph.

The second round was almost the same, just no purphoros and 2 master of waves and a bunch of elementals going in for the rush.

The decks seems good, you get thassas devotion easily, but I don't think the singleton Master of Waves is necessary, even though it pumps the Water Servant (witch totally looks like it has flying even though it doesn't, it should have flying wtf) it's too inconsistent to be relevant, also until today I have never seen Runner's Bane used in constructed, it helped against the Frostburn Weird and it hits reckoners too so it seems like it could become a thing if the next set comes out with some more things it could freeze.

I think the same thing about the Water Servant , that image is deceiving lol. The deck was just constructed out of stuff that I had as a casual thing to play with friends because ever since Thassa, God of the Sea was spoiled I was like I want a blue deck. I don't really have the things necessary to go full out aggro like has been seen from the mono U decks on the pro circuit so I found other ways to build devotion, which actually happens rather easily. The single Master of Waves is in there simply because that's all I have and being a casual deck I wasn't interested in paying the "hyped up" price after mono U got huge at PT Theros. It can be really devastating with the amounts of devotion I can get but since there is only 1 in there it's also relatively easy to deal with him and the elemental tokens because there isn't another to help boost them. The fact Water Servant is an elemental was merely coincidental, mostly he's there for the UU devotion and being able to pump it while making it unblockable by Thassa to get more damage through.

Thanks for testing it out, I was really surprised by how well it performs in a casual environment so I was kind of interested to see what it did against a better constructed more competitive deck.

Wtf is up with the 4x Varolz, the Scar-Striped ? I drew 3 of them in the first 3 turns.

Good thing Lotleth Troll let me make good use of them.

Yep even though I was able to Turn / Burn the demon after it dropped, I was over run by a bunch of bull.

Very nice.

Round 2

This game was matched big time, with a 7/7 and a 5/5 Kalonian Tusker , but a Young Pyromancer and Purphoros, God of the Forge ended the game hittin the clutch.

Round 3

The match was just 2 decks setting up mana for a while, till I got a Purphy, and you got a DoubleDee, then a troll, then a surfmaster, it was just 2 decks trying to top eachothers last move, till the demon got too fat and swung for game.

Nice job.

Though I would drop Varolz to 3 and toss in another Abrupt Decay .

Balls, the playtester freezes whenever I kill a token wtf.

I'll do some more tomorrow.

November 5, 2013 8:38 p.m.

infinitemana says... #14

Yeah, the reason I had four Varolz is that I can pitch extras to Lotleth Troll . But there will be situations where I'll have multiple Varolz and no Lotleth Troll , so I'll make the switch you suggested.

First game Selesnya Charm exiles Purphoros, God of the Forge when the devotion was met and that was it, Archangel of Thune took the match by storm.

Second game, Voice of Resurgence was dropped turn 2 and an Advent of the Wurm turn my turn 4, with an Ajani, Caller of the Pride turn 5.

Top tier deck man.

First couple of turns I dropped some Frostburn Weird s, one got hit with a Hero's Downfall and one was saved from a Doom Blade by a Syncopate , it then just rushed a bunch ignoring all the mill spells and took out out itself.

Second round, the early Tome Scour and Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver took out a bunch of stuff I didn't need and let me drop a Master of Waves , bringing 4 elementals since I had a weird and a Nivmagus Elemental , then the turn after I dropped another surfmaster and rushed for game.

If I were you I would drop Lazav, Dimir Mastermind for a couple Desecration Demon s.

also the Voyage's End s for Far / Away .

I would definitely take out Tome Scour for Breaking / Entering or more removal.

Witchstalker + Gift of Orzhova is mean, Ajani, Caller of the Pride double strike was game.

Second round you couldn't get the green mana you needed.

Round 3 was a Young Pyromancer and a Nivmagus Elemental vs a single Gladecover Scout that was enchanted to the max, you were left at 2 and I was killed.

I would concider Voice of Resurgence , Archangel of Thune , Ready / Willing , but definitely add some Sylvan Caryatid .

@CW Why would you add the Sylvan Caryatid ? Nothing in the deck is more than 3 mana. Could you please elaborate?

it fixes your mana and is a nice blocker, plus it helps you get to the lions monsterous faster.

First round was dragged on a ton, and Akroan Horse was surprisingly helpful, it ended with Desecration Demon and liliana, I just couldnt get that 4th mana and when I did it was too late.

Second round I hit the turn 4 Purph Purph, then I got a Master of Waves down, then a Frostburn Weird AND a surfmaster the same turn for game from Purphoros, God of the Forge burn.

Last round It was even with Desecration Demon vs 2 Master of Waves and 4 3/2 elementals, but a Turn / Burn saved me the last bit of life I needed to seal the deal.

The decks pretty solid +1.
