Price of Voice of Resurgence in the coming months?

Standard forum

I hope this is the right forum. It seemed more appropriate then traders, since it's more a discussion about price. It seemed more appropriate then general since it's a card currently in standard. My apologies if it's in the wrong place.

So... anyway... After buying 3 boxes of DM, I've struck out in getting any @#$% Voice of Resurgence , which means I'm going to probably bite the bullet and buy at least 1-2 (and try to trade for the other two)...

So, when to buy? Here is the most recent "Magic stock profile":

It looks like the price has plateaued and is even beginning to fall a little. The question is whether the price will come down over the next 1-3 months and where will it settle at?.

I like Naya & Selensya aggro & midrange, so getting them is a priority. But there are other builds I like to play too, so I can be patient and wait.

On eBay it looks like I could get them for ~$35 each if I'm lucky, but if the price comes down overall it will come down on eBay too.

What do the experts think? Thanks again.

The price isn't likely to go down for a while. Once it cycles out of standard maybe, but it's still way too playable in modern.

If for any reason a card in m14 works really well with voice, it could jump again in price, much like Thragtusk did after rotation only there won't be any event decks or other ways that will further boost the market for it, so it'll likely only keep going up, unless they also print a card that's sometimes better to run (like Mizzium Mortars s over bonfire).

It also looks like Voice is going strong at about 60$ which is crazy, as for it's price it can at best drop a smidge (not much) and plateau but with what we have as standard it is killer in any G/W/x deck. Now when ISD drops and Theros comes in it could drop.

As long as G/W/x decks are VERY popular this card will stay at or even increase its price. Only when it starts to lose its demand will it drop which could be quite a while.

My advice is if it's a priority that you NEED for your deck, don't buy any more boxes and get them now. You'll be happier/more competitive and for longer which is worth it.

Since you mentioned that you already boot 2 boxes (Im' assuming booster boxes at $100+ each) you won't mind spending the money on the playset

I really think the only answer is to buy them now. They're really going nowhere (in the long term) than up. This includes after rotation.

For Standard...well, GW has been set up as pretty strong all the way through Voice's lifecycle, even if Theros doesn't add much to it. Unless there is something printed that specifically hoses Voice, it's not coming down. If it was going to, you'd have seen some drops over the last three weeks, when the card has not been present in big-tournament winning decklists like it had been the prior month.

For the longer term, this card is looking a lot to me like Tarmogoyf . It's a powerful two-mana card out of the last set in the block (meaning there will always be problems with supply) that has the capability of warping an entire format. It's not quite the same, of course. Goyf is more spashable, and Voice is more rare. I think a lot will depend on whether someone can find a good Legacy deck for it...if GW was more popular, it would already be a Legacy all-star because of all of the blue decks that it just feasts upon.

Of course it's already winning Modern GP's, so if it can find another deck or two in that format and/or a strong deck for Legacy, it'll just take off completely. Those are big if's and require some speculation, but I'd not be shocked if in 5 years' time, we're all complaining about Voice being $120 just like certain other popular 2-drops in Modern.

Not to mention that one of the premier removal spells for it in Standard is rotating (unless reprinted) in October in Pillar of Flame

I think the price might even go up a little when Pillar of Flame rotates out.

Voice of Resurgence is possibly the most op card in standard, its price will go nowhere but up until it cycles out of standard.

Note that a Maverick deck won the SCG Legacy Open this weekend. While it was a traditional build that didn't use any Voice of Resurgence in its 75...how could you not want to use Voice of Resurgence in a GW deck in Legacy?

Even without the card being featured, I suspect people will be looking at Maverick over the next couple of weeks, and Voice will probably play a part. We'll see how well that goes.
