Purphoros and Erobos

Standard forum

I want to make a Rakdos deck that will have both Purphoros and Erobos. Purphoros for the extra damage and the strong indestructible. Erobos for the draw power and a strong indestructible. I love rakdos, but absolutely HATE drawing a card and throwing it down by turn 4-5. Thats no fun, and 100% chance. I need draw power so I want to be able to have both. My question is... What is your opinion on Devotion and how hard would it be to get the devotion for both the red AND black god? Also it would help to suggest any black devotion gold in standard as there is in red. (Ash Zealot , Boros Reckoner for example)). It would be fantastic if Vampire Nighthawk wasnt rotating out. Also, Rakdos Cackler is awesome cause it counts for both. Just picked up my 4th. Anyone wanna help? I am sure im not the only one who is interested.

Well, Rakdos Cackler obviously works towards the devotion for both gods. I suppose Rakdos Shred-Freak does also, but it's rather terrible. Lifebane Zombie might not be a bad choice for a black devotion enabler. Dark Prophecy is another good black enabler and helps you with your card draw issues as well.

If you run 11 black and 11 red devotion shouldn't be that difficult. I will be running Naya after post rotation with some devotion. It's all about using what you have.

So far, I think the 2 best color combo's for non-mono-color devotion will be U/B and R/G... though R/W is close.

It's interesting to note that Erebos and Thassa both have abilities that help you get their required devotion quickly. (Scry to the required card, and draw to get the required card faster)

For the same reason, Domri Rade could be a powerhouse for Devotion, as will Burning-Tree Emissary , and Ramp in general.

R/B will still be strong, but more because of it's removal than it's actual Devotion mechanic. Rakdos Cackler and Rakdos Shred-Freak for early drops would almost always ensure that you get the early devotion for both colors.

Cryptborn Horror could get its time in the sun?

I disagree entirely, black has tons of ways to get devotion, especially in black/green black/white, with stuff like Nighthowler out there, Erebos gives himself one devotion, throw in a Stab Wound , Contaminated Ground and Lotleth Troll and you can be well on your way to a turn 4-5 devotion aplenty, it can good quick, and with all the removal in B/G, and the ability to hexproof. You add a B/G/W splash for either Unflinching Courage or Ethereal Armor you can get some pretty formidable weapons out there.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. This all seems awesome. Never thought of dark prophecy. Seems like a great card to add. Except cryptborn horror lol. That never ever seems to come out strong. Look at it this way. If you did something to do enough damage to get the horror out strong, wouldnt you just be better off doing more of that thing you did?

In general depends on your play style. some decks I tend to summon my creatures during post-combat mainphase after analyzing how my opponent response. Though it can be strong, I don't like Cryptborn Horror since it's a terror top-deck card.

Lol. Yeah, Cryptborn Horror is a waste of a card.

I would believe it as a rare if it was a 2/2 with the same ability. That way it isnt 100% useless if you cant do any damage.
