What do you guys think about Teferi, Hero of Dominaria should he be banned in standard or not?

Sorry mate, in german it is Standart, not standard. :-)

What a freaking brutal game five in the Pro Tour Final. The mull to four was heartbreaking, poor LSV.

BTT: At least the pro tour gave a clear no to the Teferi ban question. As I told to someone else before the weekend. Settle the Wreckage is really underplayed.

€: Pretty interesting. Even in german it is Standard, it just sounds like Standart. :-)

I just thin that teferi is just overloaded +1 card draw and 2 mana is a bit to much in my opinion and the other abilitys are always useful

His power is a little deceiving too.

Because EVERY TURN, you have an Urza Land to use essentially.

Turn 6 U/W control with Teferi out.

You can draw a card, cast Supreme Verdict.

Untap 2 lands and then

Cryptic Command

So, yeah he's ridiculous.

I know that's an example for Modern but it's a good example.

He should not be banned, because he is not harmful or oppressive to the diversity of the meta. Period.

The question with Teferi should not be, is he a problem and therefore needs to be banned? It should be, is he an overpowered card and needs to be banned?

Teferi is my favorite planes walker in the lore, but hero of dominaria is just ludicrous. As is Nexus of fate, Nicol bolus, and a slew of other cards.

When you print a card that literally goes infinate with itself (nexus of fate), you should know it's an overpowered card. And yet they printed it. (I have opinions as to why they will not ban that card, but that is outside the scope of this topic)

+1 netting a card is typically a 3 mana ability on the low end. Untapping a two lands is a little more difficult to nail down, but let's use cloud fairies... 2 Mana. That makes teferi's first ability, taking nothing else into account worth 5 Mana. If Teferi was just a 5 Mana common sorcery that read "draw two cards (netting a card), at the end of your endstep untap up to two lands" it would be playable in pauper Even with uw in the casting cost.

-2 totally lost cost 5.....this is literally three times better than that...do I even need to explain how powerful a card is when one copy of it replaces at least 12 cards in a deck. (4 totally lost, 4 divination, 4 cloud fairies) Do I? I'd don't I? Okay so let's say I want to make a deck that does the same thing teferi does without teferi I will need these three cards in my deck. But I'll also need...

-8 Okay, I've looked and just had to make sure I was correct...emblems are overpowered. You cannot interact with them, and they are constant effects. But beside that, in order to exile a permanant when I draw a card there really is nothing to compare this to.. this is how rediculous this effect it. Let alone the fact you should never get this off because 1 you will loose teferi, or 2 your opponent should not allow you to pull it off. You will get it off however, because teferi allows you to always have manna up to protect it. Let's say you have a 9 Mana enchantment with the same effect. That enchantment would be playable, and would have decks built around it in almost any format. It would likely also be a bulk rare in a set sorta like sunbirds invocation or swarm intelligence. Teferi has this effect on a payment plan. Like...what?

Mana cost 5 mana is pretty steep for any card, but teferi gives you the option for a 2 Mana return on your investment. People will claim teferi is hard to cast because of a two color restriction, but honestly with check lands, dual lands and plenty of ways to fix and draw, multiple colors is never a restriction to a card.

Conclusion 1 Teferi replaces three potential cards, provides you a win condition, and most importantly, provides you flexibility. One copys very existance thins a control deck by up to 11 cards leaving you with alot of room to add in powerful cards you normally would not have room for. Teferi is easy to cast, and easy to splash for. The card on a very fundamental level is overpowered and should be banned. It should have never been printed.

Takeaway, just because a card is not a problem in the competitive format does not mean it does not need to be banned. Teferi is banned at kitchen table game I play at

I think it's too late to debate if Teferi should be banned. Sure thing, Esper Control was the best deck in Allegiance Standard, but it wasn't oppressive and now big Teferi just feels in line with other walkers, at least in standard.

In Eternal formats some already claim that Little Teferi or Narset are better than Big Teferi.
