Simic Finishers in Standard

I was playing a simic deck before rotation and it was working well but it seems like simic lost all of its good big threats. Wolfir Silverheart rotated out which was what i was playing and im not a huge fan of prime speaker. the card draw is nice but she doesnt have a huge impact on the board and her mana cost is a bit limiting. Im looking at Kalonian Hydra because the five mana finisher was just perfect for me, but im not sure if im willing to shell out the premium that card requires. So what do you guys think has simic lost any playability...p.s. i run a evolve deck, and im depressed as to the loss of Strangleroot Geist ... loved that card but thats a seperate matter, lol

should post a link of the deck you're referring to. i went to your decks, but there were a few simic decks, so i wasn't sure which one to click

Playset of Kalonian Hydra unless they have gone back up could probably be had for around 30 if you're patient. Cost one more but Mistcutter Hydra is pretty much my mechanical replacement for strangleroot, mechanical being evolve triggers. Going to subrscribe to this but trying to make a good Simic-based competitive deck, so collaboration is good.

DaggerV - where are you buying Kalonian Hydra s for so little? I'm checking eBay and finding playsets for $75. Checking the TCG graph the median has never been lower than $18 (that was pre-release) and is currently $20.39. Actual price on TCG is about $19/ea.

If you are able to monstrous Shipbreaker Kraken that will win games. It does have a heavy cost but shutting down up to 4 creatures permanently is huge

I think with ramp Sylvan Primordial is great with that reach, Colossus of Akros is fun since indestructible lel, and the classic AEtherling .

Prophet of Kruphix is one of the coolest cards in those colors.

You NEED Prophet of Kruphix combine with Zameck Guildmage . Untaping your land and being able to play creatures at flash speed is crazy. Use guildmage to draw, flash creatures in to defend or give you pseudo haste for next turn.

Putting down a Kalonian Hydra at the end of your opponents turn is quite devastating.

But for a simic evolve deck you play small creatures early and bank on them getting bigger. Unless your playing a midrange deck, where you are playing large threats consistently you can't sacrifice those one and two drops. It is also a pain to have the mana consistently to play those 6 and up drops. I wish i liked Prophet of Kruphix , her ability is amazing but she is sitting in the 5 drop spot which is the top of my curve. She would not have a huge impact in more aggro games because our hands run dry fast and we dont have much for card draw...She would be great in a midrange or more controlling deck that plays a few large creatures versus a horde of little guys. simic needs a creature that has board presence, much like Wolfir Silverheart and Vorapede did. Something with shear power that makes others hate playing you. Both of those guys fit into that wonderful little 5 mana spot that was perfect for this deck.

My favorite reactions to those two would have to be, wait they both get +4/+4...and, but he's dead
