so Im building a simic deck, and I was wondering; is simic any good in this standard block? if not, what doyou think is the best?
Personally, I enjoy Simic, but I've not seen or heard of anyone using it at local FNM or anywhere except for casual (and even then, only rarely). I've been told that mono-black runs well in Standard.

Bant aggro has seen some play. If you like Simic, that's probably the closest thing.

golgari aggro is good right now and same with orzhov. however this is more based off the colors and not as much so the mechanics for these decks. Ex. Blood Baron of Vizkopa and Obzedat, Ghost Council are big, but extrort isnt a major theme in decks.

I'm playing Selesnya aggro right now. It's pretty strong in Standard, but it's not as close to Simic as Bant.
Here's my deck if you want to look:
I'm usually more a fan of blue. The other deck I'm playing right now is Mono-Blue Devotion. You might like that as well, because it's blue tempo, not control.

from what I know, if you are going green/white, you might as well go hexproof. (for competitive decks

SharuumNyan ive actually never played any deck seriously at all except boros FAST BOROS LEGIONS so i dont really care how close it is to simic or anything, simic just sounded cool so i decided to check it out XD

@quadspell GW hexproof was big pre-Theros, but isn't as much of a thing now.

simic does have a lot of strong and fun cards. Kalonian Hydra , Experiment One , Cloudfin Raptor and all of the counter spells are strong. while cards like Simic Manipulator , Master Biomancer , ect are really fun to play.

SharuumNyan quadspell1 hmmm, I just threw together a selesnya aggro deck (on my profile) and playtested it against my boros. Selesnya won by a crap ton, and my boros deck has a score of 12 and got me first place at FNM last friday. would you guys mind checkin it out maybe and tell me what you think? I really appreciate all your guys's help.

by glancing at the decks I would say your boros would be better vs control due to Spark Trooper and Legion's Initiative and also has some removal that would help vs midrange. Meanwhile your selesnya only has nothing to protect vs a t4 supreme other than a sideboard Silence .

quadspell1 yeah, i agree. i guess my hope would have to be to beat em before that happens :) do you have any suggestions then for the selesnya against control?

Voice of Resurgence and Advent of the Wurm are probably your best bet to my knowledge, but I haven't really looked at selesnya too much.

quadspell1 yeah, i think that makes since. unfortunately, unless i pull one, theres no way im buying voice of resurgence.

Yeah, Voice is stupid expensive. The only reason I play that deck is because I already had the Voices from when they were much cheaper.

Well, there has been speculation of a U/G planeswalker, and there are the minor gods to come in the Theros block, and if either of those are good, it is possible that Simic could become a good choice.

Well, I used to get wrecked by someone who played Simic where I used to live. Evolve and swarm. I didn't have board wipes, so it was just annoying. The mix of Fathom Mage , Master Biomancer , Gyre Sage , and Corpsejack Menace . It was Simic, then he splashed black the next FNM. It was very annoying. Also Elusive Krasis . It can be scary, but it's very combo-oriented and irritating.

Personally, I feel that every deck idea can become a great or at least a decent deck. You just have to find the card list and playstyle that fits the format/meta game. I just recently made a simic aggro deck focusing on some smaller evolvers. You can also make a control simic (coutners from blue and art/ench hate from green) with big green creatures as the finishers. Depending on what your meta is, you could look at those two options.

timothy130130 - Please, look at the dates of the last post. >_>
Anyway, Simic Player here. I've won at FNM with Simic. Will be playing more Simics when JOU is properly released. End tranmission
