This combo came to my attention last Saturday.

Clock of Omens + Door to Nothingness + the Keyrunes. Anyone think this could work? Thoughts on a build?

What's the combo?

I think it would simply take too long. The meta seems to be getting faster and faster, and any DtN deck is much too slow.

Tap clock of omens and a keyrune to untap the door all in one go. Can also use it to untap the keyrunes if you have other artifacts.

That isn't really a combo. That's just a trick, and you still need to be able to produce the five mana to cast DtN and the extra ten chromatic to activate its ability. If you could somehow make infinite mana with these cards, then it would be a combo.

Combo doesn't always have to describe an infinite loop. It can be used as a way to describe a neat or interesting interaction.

In my book, using the word combo implies you're describing a sequence of interactions that can be abused to create an immediate, large advantage. Examples include infinite mana production, hard locks, soft locks, and infinite damage generation. Something like this is better described as an interaction. From a semantic standpoint, saying any interaction between two cards can be called a combo means every deck is a combo deck.

That's how I always felt, Ohthenoises, but I've learned that "combo" and "interaction" have different connotations in a Magic setting. Usually a "combo" leads to an instant-win, like Exquisite Blood + Vizkopa Guildmage + any life gain.

I still think there is a bit of a difference between combo and infinite combo. Any specific sequence of specific cards that leads to a particular (hopefully awesome) result I would call a "combo," and that doesn't necessarily mean infinite production of something.

However, I do agree that what the OP was talking about was more of a way to get DtN to work faster, rather than an explicit combo.

It may be a bit of a fine line though, but that's y two cents.

Anyway, I do think that this doesn't make DtN decks any more viable than they were previously. I still bet it would be fun though.

isnt this only relevant when you have like 15 mana when you cast the door?
