Soldier of OMG a 6/5 on Turn 2!!

Standard forum

Anyone check out the new Theros rare? ONE white for a 2/1 with protection from multicolor and Heroic.

Turn one: Plain , Soldier of the Pantheon Turn two: Plain , Ethereal Armor x 2 , swing with a 6/5

Ummm that's nuts!

Comments?

CaptainCaveman says... #2

Wait i did the math wrong : each Ethereal Armor would grant +2/+2 so that's +4/+4 right there and the casting of each of the Ethereal Armor would trigger heroic. So that's another +2/+2 in counters. So we looking at an 8/7 on turn 2 that can attack??????

This card will be restricted. LOL.

Same here, I'll link the image.

I think you're looking at Favored Hoplite. It's a 1/2 for W, Heroic ability gives it a +1/+1 counter and prevents all damage dealt to it that turn.

Soldier of the Pantheon

Seems quite good. Makes me sad because I no longer really have space to play my promo Dryad Militant s.

NM i am an effing idiot : Still would be a 6/5 on turn 2 with first strike. That's sick either way. I must have been imagining the heroic. Sorry. LOL.

meecht has it correct.

September 10, 2013 12:35 p.m.

@ meecht yes i think i got them confused guess the Favored Hoplite would be just as sick. I think mono white is going to be the way i go. With Ethereal Armor , Pacifism , Arrest , Brave the Elements , Banisher Priest , Frontline Medic . Anyways thanks for setting me straight.

all I can say is I better keep Azorius Charm mainboard.

The Doctor says... #12

Azorius Charm wouldn't do anything against it. It has protection from Multicolored...

Mono-white humans gooooooooooooooo!

WovenNebula says... #14

or you could turn one, plains and soldier of pantheon; turn 2 plains and phalanx leader; then turn three plains and three Ethereal Armor on phalanx leader. Making him a 13/13 turn 3, and soldier of pantheon would be a 5/4. Swing for 18 damage turn 3 assuming they have no blockers.

@ WovenNebul Hehe that's crazy. I am so stoked about putting a mono-white deck together. Originally i had planned on a mono black but the more and more i look at Theros white the more i am liking it.

@The Doctor you are incorrect. That's the other guy. Favored Hoplite prevents damage with heroic. Azorius Charm still works.

soldier of the pantheon gets the multicolor protection, but burn would still get him.

Regardless, white aggro is alive and well. Boros too.

WovenNebula says... #17

@marcosousasr also assuming since they had no creatures you attacked on the second turn with soldier of pantheon a 2/1. They would be dead by turn three lololol. Again tho, luck of the draw. I am going to do a mono white with that general idea and a mono black since I picked up a set of Thoughtseize when they were 19.99. They just need to release more of what black has to offer. Either way tho I am pretty psyched for Theros.

@Apoptosis I had assumed you were talking about Soldier of the Pantheon.

mono-color T3 win in Standard... and if you use Dryad Militant instead of "Soldier of Pantheon", it only uses common and uncommon cards.

Nice!

so much for "slowing down the format", Theros is only half revealed and we have T3 wins

;-)

Nm on the Judge's Familiar , just throwing things out there

Apoptosis - while a T3 win IS impressive, that would take the opening hand of the GODS plus a land draw in order to work. If I was on the receiving end of that combo, it would be hard to complain.

September 10, 2013 4:08 p.m.

Wow and they just put out yet another white human soldier : Fabled Hero : 1 colorless and 2 white for a 2/2 with double strike AND heroic. Can make a decent white humans deck just from Theros cards alone. Favored Hoplite , Phalanx Leader , Soldier of the Pantheon and now Fabled Hero. Throw in some Fiendslayer Paladin and Imposing Sovereign and you are good to go. LOL

meecht says... #26

All these white heroic abilities that grant +1/+1 counters seem like they might be a little OP. Hopefully we'll get more removal.

September 11, 2013 8:34 a.m.

my deck thus far : Mono-White Human Soldiers

September 11, 2013 8:57 a.m.

rakdosrunner says... #28

or you could Rakdos Cackler on first turn seocond turn Madcap Skills third another and fourth two more for a 13212424/125422114 creature! jk lol

September 11, 2013 12:45 p.m.

WovenNebula says... #29

Now with Fabled Hero in the mix, it is like swinging with the rest of the growing creatures all 4/4+ by turn 4 or five if they don't answer to it with Anger of the Gods. If they don't or can't stop it they are dead regardless if you have drew the perfect hand for turn 3 kill. Turn 4, 5, 6 will be hell to pay with white humans either way.

The only problem with that T3 win is that it requires a very specific set of cards to pop up with little room for error, plus it can be easily disrupted. A control player can set you back by casting Cyclonic Rift or another bounce spell targeting either card.
