Standard and Rotation

Standard forum

I see a lot of people unsure of or forgetting when rotation is and what rotation does to the format lately.

I've said the same thing a handful of times, so from now on I'm just going to link this.

Standard will always be 5 or 6 sets deep at a time.

Rotation ONLY happens when the FIRST set of a NEW block releases.

Eldritch Moon will not trigger a rotation effect.

The next sets to rotate are Dragons of Tarkir and Magic Origins. They will rotate at midnight on release day (not prerelease) for Kaladesh, the next constructed set immediately following Eldritch Moon and the first set of the new Kaladesh block.

You will not see another rotation until set codenamed Barrel comes out; the constructed set following AEther Revolt, the second set in the Kaladesh block.

TL;DR - Standard will only consist of between 5 and 6 sets at a time. Rotation doesn't happen until the first set of a new block releases, at which point the two oldest sets (the oldest block) in Standard will rotate out.

Please equip yourself with this knowledge and use it wisely. Also understand the difference between sets for constructed play and "fun" sets like Commander sets and draft sets (Conspiracy: Take the Throne is a draft set that is the next Magic set to release after Eldritch Moon and before Kaladesh. It will have nothing to do with any form of constructed play.)

If you have half a brain you don't need to go to that website. I don't even play standard and "The most recent three sets" is pretty easy to remember and interpret. The only confusing part is with DTK and ORI being considered a set in this case, and in 3 1/2 months that won't matter.

Sorry said "most recent three sets" meant blocks. Had a brain fart. (for an hour and a half)
