1) Where can I find out if a card is legal for Standard or not? Is there different wording on the pages on this site, or does it just not say?

2) I've made my first deck, and I'd appreciate help. I'm trying to go for "eat my own creatures to counter-up" and "eat my enemy for life". Snackrifice

The best way to find a cards legality in a format is to go to www.gatherer.com.. Another helpful hint is to remember this: generally there are two blocks and 1 core set in standard. A block being 3 sets when completed. Special sets like commander and duel decks are tricky for new guys. Some cards in them are standard and some are just reprints of older cards. Once in a rare while, a card in standard will be banned in block constructed, like Intangible Virtue . No need to really worry about that though, unless you're playing sealed format. I hope this helps you.

The page you're looking for -- for all formats -- is https://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=judge/resources/banned . It provides banned and restricted lists and details about exactly what sets are legal in which formats.
