I know its not so competitive, but I just want a fun deck. I want to give Milling a try...I haven't milled though since Grindstone and Millstone were around, though, so I'm not really sure what are the must haves of milling right now. I know that Dimir has quite a bit, and there were a lot of mill spells from the Innistrad block like Dream Twist and Thought Scour . Mind Sculpt is pretty great it seems, too. Of course nephaliaa-drownyard will be in there. What else am I missing? I also need some creatures to include...I'm not sure if Jace's Phantasm should make the cut. I think I'll be using Vampire Nighthawk though.
Mill is actually a competitive option as a wincon for control decks, I'd suggest looking up esper control for ideas

Demarge, that is exactly where this idea is coming from. My midrange decks have been taking a beating to Nephalia Drownyard lately, and I wanted to get in on the action. I am looking to keep this build u/b, though, because I have only a playset of Drowned Catacomb to use in addition to basics and Nephalia Drownyard .
Do you think that I can still have a shot at this being a decent build?

I just had the idea of using Duskmantle Seer in this deck. This build has a relatively low cmc the way see it now, and I could also use Exquisite Blood to counter my loss of life a bit. Any thoughts?

Jace's phantasm works really really well. Even if you dont mill them to 10, it is a 1/1 flying for only one mana. I've been playing a mill deck since I started playing when RTR came out. And they arnt that competitive, but at times they really do work to people. If you want some ideas I have my mill deck here Mill for Power (GTC Standard).

No! Jace's Phantasm is a trap! If you are dedicated to milling them (getting 10 cards in their yard) why are you attacking with a large flier? If you want to be attacking with a large flier, why waste cards on milling them? Just play Restoration Angel or Thundermaw Hellkite .
Also, the fact that Esper, a competitive mill deck, has been doing well hurts the chances of other mill decks since a lot of people are sideboarding Psychic Spiral or Witchbane Orb . Combine this with the popularity of Junk Rites and The Aristocrats with Lingering Souls , mill is pretty bad right now outside of Esper.

The moment you start playing Jace's Phantasm for an extra bit of damage or Exquisite Blood for an extra bit of lifegain, you lose the focus of your deck. Because mill is inherently slow and card/mana-hungry, you can't afford to deviate from milling to incorporate other strategies into your deck. Neither of these cards help you mill, and neither of them are very good at much else. Jace's Phantasm is merely a blocker for you, and Exquisite Blood is merely an expensive, slow life engine that doesn't really do anything for you (you shouldn't be attacking much).

Ok, so no phantasm, no blood, and what about the duskmantle seer? I guess he doesn't really help me mill either, but he does out the game on a clock. Hmmm...how do I protect myself while I mill then? I don't have the land base to play white I this build for the board wipes. I have killing waves, though. Not really a wipe

The reason Esper survives as a mill deck is that it has counterspells and Supreme Verdict to protect itself. Without white, you're limited to counterspells (and the occasional kill spell if you include black).

Though Mutilate is a good black board wipe.... Provided you play enough swamps.

Ok, so I'm thinking augur of bolas is good to run. What creatures would be good in addition to that? I actually want to give this a shot here. All of the advice is much appreciated because I haven't milled in so long
