Strengths of grixis control?

Generally speaking, what are the strengths of grixis control decks in standard that separates them from other control decks (esper, bant and so on)? How do they overcome not having access to card:Sphinx's Revelation?

Also is it viable to setup a grixis deck with a couple of Duskmantle Seer 's in it seeing as how most of the spells cost 3 or less (Snapcaster Mage , Bonfire of the Damned , anything with an overload cost, Syncopate )? Could also run Liliana of the Veil to limit your opponents hand and eventually destroy their field.

as for Boros Reckoner ive played him in grixis ones as a 2off he did fine cus i would practically never see him early if i did i could mostly wait and cast something else anyway

I wasn't suggesting using Boros Reckoner in grixis (unfortunately, he would be quite handy if he was easier on the mana for us), just saying that if you're going to try Consuming Aberration that the reckoner is something to look out for.

After a rather sad display at my last fnm with grixis I turned to a more superfriend build with Lilly of the veil, chandra, jace AoT, and bolas. Since I don't have snapcasters, I'm thinking of taking the auger's out as they trend to wiff a lot (8 planeswalkers, 8 creatures, 4 artifacts and 25 land doesn't leave as many instants or sorceries as I'd like. I also hate putting pw's and olivia on the bottom of my library). Any suggestions for a good cheap replacement creature? I'm thinking Gloom Surgeon as my build is more black oriented and he's great early game against aggro and can defend planeswalkers like a champ.
