THE ALMIGHTY MANA CURVE

OK lets discuss what you guys think the best mana curve is when playing standard games. I've hear some people saying the best curve is decreasing from the left to the right, dealing out aggro while your mana is low and having a good kill spell or two for when your opponents health is below 10 but i've also heard it's best to have a mountain look to it, with it's peak on your four cost creatures, What do you think?

Depends on the deck. What kind were you refering to?

Generally speaking, the "peak" of the mountain should be around 3-4 for a midrange / control deck and 2 for aggro, though it really depends on the deck itself. If you're ramping, you can get away with a higher cmc "peak."

well i'm running Mono Green Noob test right now, I haven't been playing for very long so I don't have very many good cards but I think i'm making due with it, I can consistently beat some of my friends who have been playing for around a year. I had help with my mana curve with a friend though because I didn't know how it really worked but I've been doing some research on it so I think i'm getting a slightly better view on it but of course there is always room to learn from more experienced players!

There's no 'correct' mana curve because it depends on the deck archetype. With the ramp that you have in your deck you could consider a peak at 4. It really depends on the structure and function.

My Modern ramp deck has 2 curves (sort of). The first descends from left to right up to 4CMC, then the second starts at 6 and descends up to 7. It looks really awkward.

Don't bottleneck your building to have a nice curve. While generally it is a good thing, some of my best decks have ridiculously poor curves on paper.

The importance of the mana curve only goes so far as the type of deck you are building. Generally speaking, it is not the end all, be all definition of the deck. Card Quality is just as important as when you're going to cast that spell.
