You all know that guy.....
He was playing Mono-Blue after the pro tour.....
He was playing Mono-Black after GP Louisville......
He is the master of netdecks.
I don't care for netdecks. Not one bit. I have no hard feelings towards those who play to win, and only play the "best" and most well known decks, but that is not what I find fun about magic. I don't play magic purely to win. I play magic because of the space it gives me to express. I love crafting and shaping decks to fit my personality and play style. I'm still quite young (14) so I don't have a ton of cash to blow on that play set of Voice of Resurgence but I love scheming and brewing.
And I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.
I want to here from YOU! What do you love about magic? What do you play magic for? Do you play to be with friends, to win, to express yourself?
Finally and most importantly I want to see what crazy brews you all have come up with. What is your brain child? What deck have created that has done the best at a tournament!
Common' lets here it!!!!
Hey thanks!
I like the deck, janky and stylish, perfect!
Truthfully my goal is to take a rouge build very deep in a tournament that has a heavily established meta, then fade back into the shadows (SPOOKY)!

Thanks!
I can imagine some netdecker looking at the tournament he lost in and thinking, "who was that guy that beat me with that cheap homebrew?" looking you up, and saying "well, he won the tournament... where is he now?"
Thats when you turn around in his reclining chair in his room, right?

And then life maniacally and fly back to my home the island of misfit rares leaving only the wreckage of broken netdecks behind.
February 10, 2014 7:29 p.m.
And in the wreckage cards merged together... and mono esper control aggro was created. (Ash Zealot into Brimaz, King of Oreskos into Master of Waves into Blood Baron of Vizkopa , topped of by a garruk? Scary)

Basically every deck i play is some sort of fun home brew, currently i'm working on an orzhov aggro deck using Pain Seer just because i want to see him work

Oh trust me Dalektable I know! I love watching your decks. I love your pauper deck!

Here's my home brew, built around getting Gift of Immortality of some interesting "second string" creatures.
Rares are land (4x Temple Garden , 4x Temple of Plenty ), 2x Trostani, Selesnya's Voice , 4x Gift of Immortality (decks theme after all) and...unfortunately, this deck does call for 4x Voice of Resurgence (but I was lucky, and opened 5 in the first 2 weeks of Dragon's Maze)
Many of these rares can probably be swapped out for other good synergy cards... Everything else is common or uncommon.
It's not overtly threatening, but can have some very powerful plays and Synergy. - Fun deck to play, especially when you're gaining 4x life (or more), and a 4/4 Angel on EACH players turn, and even Supreme Verdict can't stop you.

The thing I think I like most about MTG is building decks and being creative with the themed and semi themed builds. I like to have a deck that people don't expect or even see coming.
Nothing better than your opponent snickering when you play a card then you follow up with a couple of combos around that card. My deck No Fate But What We make is funny that way when you drop Agent of the Fates then proceed to enchant and hit it with 1 drop instants for two turns. Your opponent stops smiling as they sac creatures.
Then you mill their deck and drop a Nighthowler onto the board.
My other deck that really shocks people is Infinite Ping (Stop it Tim!) really annoying in the beginning just pinging away for one until you drop an infinite combo and win the game. There are 7+ infinite combos that can be triggered for the win-con and its kinda weenie deck.
I agree that anyone can netdeck but building a unique deck takes time and skill.

I don't like netdecking either. it is quite annoying, and honestly, boring. there is no talent in copying someone's deck. besides, the thrill of the game for me comes from winning with something purely my own like my current naya deck. I mostly play competitively, but it is way more fun to win with a deck of my own creation. this is the deck thati made (although im still missing a few cards)

I agree with your sentiments on homebrewing v. netdecking; there's nothing wrong with netdecking, but it's not for me. I enjoy the deckbuilding process as much as competing, and I like to find ways to make use of underrated and/or little-known cards. Nothing is better than playing against a skilled opponent and using a card they have to read before it rips them to shreds.
I brew up tons of different decks on here, but the ones that generally tug at my heart strings are Simic decks. I love big creatures and drawing lots of cards, and it's a bonus that many people dismiss Simic colors as uncompetitive which makes me extra motivated to prove them wrong. This Standard season, I've run a few different decks, but my Simic ramp deck- My Prophet, Your Loss (Top 4 FNM)- has been the most successful and fun to pilot by far. And although it's no longer Standard, I'll give a shout-out to my favorite brew of all time since it falls into the same category: my Simic Elves deck, Simic Elfhoof? Believe it (Top 4 FNM).

I hat net decking, just like you. MTG used to be all about creativity, not what the pros play. And think of it like this, the very first net deck was a home brew that did good at some tournament.
Anyway, I play magic to have fun. With all the crazy decks I build, it's very hard to get top 8. The decks I build are very fun to play and people at my lgs are rooting me on whenever I use home brews that are the absolute coolest thing ever! There are about five people who don't run net decks and those decks consist of BUG Control, Grixis Control, Four Color Control, and many more ideas! Note these are standard builds.
So, two of my crazy builds are these:

What I love about Magic is sitting around with a group of great people and playing a game I enjoy. Back when I was 14 I had plenty of time to devote to hobbies and games, but now I'm much older I don't have all that extra time. I do often pick up netdecks because I need a deck to play, and don't always have enough time to brew something decent up myself. I play a mix of homebrews and netdecks, and so do many of the people I play with.
It also depends on format and money. I always homebrew my EDH decks and try to come up with things that no one else has done before. I enjoy being as expressive as possible. But, I only usually get to brew up 1-2 EDH decks per year. In Standard and Modern I don't want to spend a bunch of money building a homebrew that might not work. I'd rather use money to build a netdeck, and then add my own spin to it.
I think it's okay to have a preference for or against netdecking, but it's not right to hate on people who netdeck. You still have to be a good player to win, whether you copied your deck or built it yourself.

Wow. Are you... me?
In all seriousness, from what I know, we see magic very similarly. I know that I come here and make crazy, somewhat Johnny decks that blow any budget, but I would be about $500 short if I try to build them at home.
Here, I enjoy building around the absolute worst cards (Can Karametra be built around?) and building fun combos, just like a lot of people here, I'm guessing. Someday, I'd love to say that I thought of the next MBD or orzhov control deck and prove it with a time stamp here. That's my ultimate goal (Do I have it with bang flash? Probably not exactly).
