Two Questions...

Standard forum

1) What is currently the best equipment in standard? Kinda looking for something suitable for a deck running Lingering Souls that adds that extra boost to toughness to survive an Illness in the Ranks or two...

2) Burning Vengeance decks... where are they? I've seen everyone blow up after seeing Guttersnipe but being honest, the little dude gets zapped by all the removal the opponent sits on while waiting for your first creature to come out... Burning Vengeance at least provides answers to threats on the table, pulling a lot more weight than guttersnipe's build-around decks have shown...

1) to tell the truth, its pretty terrible. Runechanter's Pike is probably to best one, but it doesn;t pump toughness. I think the best one which does is a ring like Ring of Thune , though slow. Actually, in a tokens deck equipments are not very good. Intangible Virtue is going to help a heck of a lot more than any equipment you might play.

2) graveyard hate is so abundant, cards like Rest in Peace and Tormod's Crypt hurt this deck more even than somehting like reanimator. Also, burning vengeance decks have always really been too slow for the meta. With turn 4 wins threatened from aggro decks across the board, getting your extra 2 or 4 damage is useless.

Instead of equipment, try lord effects like Intangible Virtue , Drogskol Captain , Favorable Winds , Phantom General , etc.

As for Burning Vengeance , it's a tough sell in an aggressive meta--unless you have some kind of combo-style wincon it just doesn't have enough board presence to help you survive. If there were better red mana spells to work with Past in Flames I could see it being a deck, but cards like Battle Hymn and Infernal Plunge are just awful.

I was thinking of Burning Vengeance in a RWU variant. My original decklist focused on Geistflame as an early answer simply being izzet coloured. With the addition of white you get Feeling of Dread to be able to slow down opponent's decks. I'm considering throwing in Blind Obedience to help with slowing the opponent down long enough to be able to find and set up Burning Vengeance while stalling with incremental life gain.

Sure enough, there's a lot of graveyard hate out there to deal with, though that shouldn't be too hard to deal with provided i add in the appropriate tools to those threats such as Witchbane Orb and potentially things like Ground Seal and Ray of Revelation if i decide to splash in some green. Ground Seal matter-of-factly just deals with unburial rites decks and Deathrite Shaman . I haven't really seen much of Grafdigger's Cage , though knowing it's out there i might add in Oblivion Ring or Ancient Grudge to deal with the threat.

Besides, its almost an all-but-forgotten archetype that i'd like to surprise people at FNM with. I really don't like creature-based decks and this one will probably have absolutely none, in which case Witchbane Orb would be great against Boros Reckoner matchups since, besides attacking, it won't do me much harm. The fact that the reckoner's damage dealing ability isn't optional means it'll probably have no target other than the player or another creature they control.

I'll test out the 5colour vengeance idea i've got. If it doesn't work out i'll just change to a different idea

I like all of those ideas. Rolling Temblor is probably a must, even though it's pretty bad.

I did see this interesting deck just yesterday: Izzet The Illusionist (R/U/G) Tri Control. It is half Burning Vengeance and half Izzet Staticaster + Nightshade Peddler . Sure it's clunky, but it has some interesting ideas.

rolling temblor is probably pretty effective against today's aggro.
