I was just thinking about how UW and Esper control really isn't even a thing without Sphinx's Revelation , so what do you think UW control will be like without it?

Not just rev, but verdict as well. Wizards realizes this though, it'll get new tools. I'm sure u/w will look very different regardless of how they do it.

U/W/x control basically dies come rotation. I'm sure it might still be around, but it won't be nearly as strong. It loses Supreme Verdict , Detention Sphere and most inportantly Sphinx's Revelation all key pieces in these decks.
Arsene Wizards Isn't inclined to print new goodies for any given archtype. They make these sets years in advance, they didn't know U/W would even be a thing. I wouldn't count on them printing anything for it.

There will always be some solid cards in every color. They may not be thinking about u/w control as we know it specifically, but it's pretty unlikely that they won't make some quality u/w cards.

The way it is right now? It's going to die in a heartbeat. It'll get new tools. My hope is that the best of these won't be M15 stuff. I don't like dropping in tons of money on a set that stays legal for one year.

Given the way Theros block looks right now, post-rotation might be all about the beatdowns. We'll have to see what Journey Into Nyx and M15 give us.

Idk... When was the last time a 4 drop board wipe wasn't somewhere in standard, between DoJ and Supreme.
I'm going to guess some white board wipe will be printed before supreme rotates, we now have a different version of Oblivion Ring from Journey to Nyx, and as far as card draw.... idk. I'm still kind of hoping for a good two drop instant draw that isn't charm. It is very unlikely we will see something like revelation in the coming sets.

@jfriday09IDK man. Losing Jace is pretty bad. You need some kind of verdict and draw. Elspeth's is still going to be a thing, so I doubt people will stop trying to make the archetype happen.
Damnation plz.

Though Elspeth works well in a midrange build too, though.

Yeah, for some of them. I'm referring more to the ones that already run Sylvan Caryatid and other mana ramp. I know at least for a while, the big deck in block was basically naya monsters, with Elspeth at the top of the curve.

I don't think Elspeth is a good enough incentive to go naya monsters over gruul or jund. but I guess I see where you're coming from.

I agree, but it's seeing tons of play in block (at least online). For instance, here's one of the deck lists from an mtgo daily event a week ago (the top 2 decks were basically this, with a few numbers switched around).
Sort of getting back on topic, I think Elspeth is a fantastic card in a control deck, but the next 3 sets will have to provide a lot of supporting pieces for something like that to be viable the way it is now. It could very well happen, of course, but with Sphinx's Revelation and Supreme Verdict being around now, I sort of feel like whatever they print won't quite match up to that. If you're going to play an Elspeth-based control deck, do it now.

Heck, even something like Mind Spring could boost control along. We need some kind of card advantage engine and I don't think dictate of kuphix is anywhere near the level we need. Will be waiting for the next block and M15. I'm sort of forced to play midrange and aggro because of how ridiculous the pricing on U/W/x decks can get.

"reprints revelation in m15" :-&. Umm... the thing is that they recognise that UW is dying, and they will probably have something coming for it in huey which will make it viable again. I reckon it may swing back into a tempo deck with all of the heroic stuff being released though.

All that's really needed is a board whipe. We have stuff like Opportunity available for card advantage. as far as life gain, Elixir of Immortality and using some lifelink guys, even splashing green for something like Horizon Chimera . Obviously wizards didn't forget about control, they just printed Banishing Light . And not to forget control players usually spend the most on their decks so we'll still have our needs met.

UW now is geared for control. UW will still be played next format but probably a more aggro/combo based Battlefield Thaumaturge / Brimaz, King of Oreskos / Launch the Fleet weenie aggro swarm heroic based deck.
The control side of it will be dead for a while atleast. They will have no inexpensive sweepers or massive draw anymore. All American control could be more viable, maybe. Keranos is just too good, and Anger of the Gods , etc.
