Its a 3/3 Flyer with a drawback...what is the big hype about him? For devotion Nightveil Specter exists, for general stats its really not that amazing...is this some Storm Crow joke 2.0 or am i missing something?

He's a turn 3 flier with three power. Not only that, but he can be bestowed two turns later (+3/+3 and flying is a pretty good Aura spell for 3BB). And he gives two devotion. The drawback is not that bad at all; for every damage you may take from him, your opponent takes 2 more.

I would hardly call 2 bucks "hype"

A 3/3 for 3 flying is actually very good stats, in aggro 1 life per turn is barely a drawback, but what pushes it over the top is bestow. It has a cheap bestow cost, it's aggressively costed, what's not good about him? It's not like a 20 turn clock will matter.

The bestow is fantastic in hexproof decks. the 2 black devotion is relevant, especially once Desecration Demon rotates out. It can also turn a semi-threatening ground pounder into a huge flying threat. I advise buying 4 now while they're cheap. i know im sitting on my playset.

I run him in my rakdos aggro and he is fantastic. Turn three 3/3 flier or bestow him for five to make something else big or bigger. His drawback isn't really a drawback when you are smashing faces before the life lose becomes a problem.

I own multiple playsets of him seeing as 1) he is awesome for reasons listed above and 2) I foresee him spiking in price later.

Also, when did this whole ninja'd thing start? Since like last month it's been everywhere on tappedout, haha

Like forever. As long as people's messages have slyly slipped in front of other people's messages.

i chucked a few into my vampires, and it suddenly becomes a lot more interesting

losing 1 life per turn is fine, when you have a flying 5/4 lifelinker that grows every time it lands an attack on an opponent

Bestow is an extremely underrated mechanic, probably because there haven't been many great options besides this and Boon Satyr . Herald is basically a Black Boon. I hope we can all agree that the Green version is good, so giving up Flash and one power for Flying and a minor drawback is solid as well. I agree with those that predict a spike in Herald's price after rotation.

@ChrisHansonBiomancin I agree with the comparisons to Boon Satyr . If bestow creatures didn't become creatures when their target died / got exiled / got slapped with a Supreme Verdict , then the bestow would be incredibly overcosted. It's also of note that doing a "battleship" with enchantments is just begging to get 2-for-one-ed, but bestow creatures keep their value when they come back.

Bestow is the best constructed mechanic in Theros block. Some might say devotion is stronger, but bestow is more flexible and your opponent cant really interact/control it in the same way they can with devotion. Post rotation all the great bestow creatures will likely spike in price and in play. I'm currently forsaking cards like Pack Rat and Desecration Demon for bestow creatures(Herald of Torment , Nighthowler and Spiteful Returned ) in my mono black deck and it has become a lot better for it and in the MBD mirror or against B/w Devotion I win almost all my games because of the durability of my board states to sweepers and spot removal.

Holy shit, that guy's amazing!A turn three drop is sick by itself, and just imagine a situation where you have a few chumps against the stereotypical Gruul Monsters deck, which has pretty much no Enchant 1 of your little chumps, lets say Tormented Hero , you get heroic triggers and a 5/4 in the air! He is a sick card!

With JOU, you can enchant him on Master of the Feast and f you already swung w/ him, you can get a 6 turn win.You understand now, Drathen?
