What's with all these people?
Standard forum

Uh, Modern Masters is NOT standard.
Why are so many people getting confused about this? It's right in the name: MODERN Masters...
Don't get me wrong, I'm not mad at these people, I just wish that they would know this already. Who is responsible for this widespread misunderstanding?! ><

lmao I would laugh so hard if someone played a modern master card against me in standard.

I'm still waiting for the release of "Standard Masters"
Just packs of Thragtusk

mstancea I don't think it's any one or group in particular. Just that most people who don't follow magic religiously (casual players going to fnm for fun), assume that a new release is standard. This is just a guess based on what I've read on people who have had the misunderstanding. Basically common knowledge and lack of priority for this information is the issue.

people's general assumption that every new set is automatically in standard happens when they play mtg, but don't look it up online ever, sometimes you'll see people use the non standard legal cards from duel decks, so the misunderstanding is due to lack of info.

It pretty much comes down to people being uninformed. Most probably don't bother to look online and read up on when something releases to see if it's standard, modern, etc.

Apoptosis, that's definitely a contending theory.
TorrentFreak, really? I would begin to cry. Part of me doesn't want to say, "Hey, that card you spent your allowance on? Yeah, it's not legal. Sorry." Another part of me doesn't want to play against a deck with four Sword of Feast and Famine . Ugh.
My question is: why do people believe that new sets are ALWAYS standard legal. Apparently, it's not new with Modern Masters, because as Demarge mentioned, it happens with Duel Decks.
Why are LGS's not more clear on this with their customers...?

mstancea isn't it great to see the wheels just come flying off...
June 28, 2013 1:23 p.m.
mstancea the only guess, is these people don't care that much (and that is the fact, if they cared, they would know by asking, looking it up, etc...). Why they don't care is cause they are just trying to have fun and enjoy a game and not be serious about it. It is how people are when it is something that isn't their priority or lack OCD.

Idk, putting myself in there shoes, I want to say that I wouldn't know to ask. Let's say you know that veins are blue because the blood has no oxygen right? Well, when was the last time you looked up why it's blue to find out that veins are red but their structure refracts light to make them appear blue? It's not something people think about. Even med students and many others people in the medical industry don't know. I say it's not cause they don't care about medicine, but they just never thought to ask.
Basically, I think people need to answer their questions even if they never ask.
Then whose job is it to answer those questions? Anybody selling/trading Modern Masters stuff. Sure you might not benefit by trading/selling like you wanted to, but have some ethical decency, please.

I follow Magic online a lot. I spend a lot of my time on Daily MTG. But I still had to look up whether MMA was Standard-legal. I can't blame anyone for thinking that MMA is legal.
June 28, 2013 2:59 p.m.
mstancea it's simpler than that, they do not have to ask anyone, just google and let the nsa know what they are looking for... It really does come down to wanting to know, which equates to caring about how they play. Don't get me wrong i'm not getting down on people for this, using your example, how many really care that much to know and why? It's all about priorities and which are important to them, me and you on an individual basis At the end of the day, I think we are saying similar things, but I think you're putting your emphasis on the game on them. Not every player cares that much.

A lot of players new to MTG don't get that standard is for core sets and their expansions only, they see it as "most recent sets" which include to them stuff like duel decks and MM but of course thats not the way it actually works.

Matsi883 when a set is a premium product, always triple check the announcement. In the case of MMA, it was part of the announcement/product info pages.

I did eventually, and found out it wouldn't be standard-legal.

For some who don't know about set releases, tournament styles, and the reason for the release of Modern Masters... the name "Modern Masters" would not seem any different or special than the name "M13", or "Dragon's Maze"...etc.
Since the general description of what "Standard" is, is that it consists of the most recent Core Set, and the cards of the 2 most recently released blocks...
If someone has that simplified understanding of what Standard is and sees a new set released... their assumption will be to think it's a new set, so it's Standard Legal.
Without knowing more about Modern, there's really nothing to tell them that this new set is not a part of a block, but rather reprints for use in a different format... so the assumption would be that this is Standard legal.
The real fault is on Wizards, for releasing a set that would look like a Standard set to anyone who only knows Standard.
Things like Planeswalker Duel Decks, and Commander Decks, etc are typically packaged very differently, and do not contain Booster packs... this makes them appear very different than most Standard releases. - With MM, they are simply Boosters in a display box. Nothing that makes them look different than other Boosters.

OMG WTF... I BOUGHT TWO BOXES FOR NOTHING!?!?!?!

I figured out... Its a highly orchestrated government cover-up of disinformation of plausible deniability perpetrated and maintained by this man:

I blame the declining educational system and a lack of funding in basic science and math.
