Which colors are best positioned for control right now?
Standard forum

I'm currently brewing a few decks for Standard after BNG drops, and I'd like to try out playtesting at least one control deck among them, but I'm not sure where to start, primarily with what colors (currently) offer the best options.
Any advice welcome!

Those are definitely the top three, among them I think Esper is going to be the hardest to fight through with some of the new black removal like Drown in Sorrow

I'm going to move this to Standard because it's about the meta rather than help with a specific deck.

If you want what are considered the best control decks right now, go with those mentioned.
If you're looking to make an original control deck to experiment with, go with Bant, UWR, or Grixis.

I personally think Grixis will be the best positioned control deck after Born of the Gods. Not only can it control but it can deal damage with some very powerful spells.

Until higher impact control spells get printed than a uncountable board wipe Supreme Verdict , am instant speed massive card advantage that also stabilizes your life total Sphinx's Revelation and an unconditional "kill" spell that can also 2-4x-for-1 Detention Sphere . UW is going to continue to be the premiere control colors of choice. Everything is is purely and wholly worse off running less optimal cards. That's not to say that other decks a bad per say, just that they have less cards that can turn around a game by themselves.
Unless something massively changes in the next ~100 spoiled cards. The consideration isn't which colors so much as 'is it worth splashing another color into UW'.

Guy ran a BANT control built almost specifically to beat mono black and blue. Also held it's own against all the other decks that he played.

I agree with Slycne here. Grixis just isn't as good due to the fact that you're hurting yourself, that that point you're playing a weaker version of UWR IMO. That being said I think that Esper is the moist poised of all of these as it gets the best UW tools for control, Sphinx's Revelation and Supreme Verdict , as well as good anti aggro with Drown in Sorrow , Hero's Downfall etc.

Sorry for the double post, hurting yourself too much with shocks without life gain, at that point*

Bant seems like it could join Esper and U/W in competitiveness. Depends on how well Kiora, the Crashing Wave
does.
American didn't get much but 2nd of 3 scry land.
U/B I've seen mentioned as being designed as control by Wizards and might be what is played post rotation in fall and lose the U/W staples.
Rakdos has some interesting tools but plays more of a tap out midrange deck and the card pool is being pushed towards aggro.

I'm confused how Mono Black Control wasn't the first thing mentioned. It is currently the best deck in standard and it is a control deck... So I go with Black.

RamboJesus While it takes on the controling role in many games, MBD is more of a mid-range deck than a control deck. It typically runs about equal number of spells and threats.

The top three control decks in standard right now are
U/W Control
B/W Control
Esper Control
