White Weenies?

Standard forum

What do you all think, is white weenies a viable strategy in standard? With dragons of tarkir, the deck now has three one drop two power creatures in Soldier of the Pantheon, Mardu Woe-Reaper and Dragon Hunter. Following that in the two drop slot is some powerful spells in Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit alongside Hidden Dragonslayer and Cavalry Pegasus (as the deck is very human heavy, making this card very relevant IMO). The deck has a strong, aggressive core and what it may lack in explosiveness compared to W/B Warriors, it is much more consistent. Let me know your thoughts down below on the matter, and I'd love to hear any suggestions you may have for this archetype in standard.

I have a green white aggro deck that's been doing pretty well, and a while ago I was rocking out the white black warriors, I'm about to update the warriors with dtk, but I've always loved white weenies so I may have to give it a try after my next project. ( american burn).

immediate problems i see is with control becoming more of a thing I think anger the gods, drown in sorrow, and end hostilities will give this deck some heart ache, sure you have valourous stance, ajannis precense, and gods willing but it won't save all your dudes.

I made a deck for this not too long ago, it's not very good though. It should be in my decks.

With the removal such as Valorous Stance, Radiant Purge, and Reprisal, it certainly can compete. It misses out on the biggest card from last standard Brave the Elements, but if most of your cards cost cmc 2 or less, Return to the Ranks can be a great card against a control matchup.

Another card that can be effective is Secure the Wastes. Having an instant speed army that's as big as you need it to be can help close games out.

From my experience, the highest cmc you'd want in a deck like this is 3 (unless the card does a lot for the deck)

Anthem effects are a large part of weenies, so Spear of Heliod, and Hall of Triumph are essential. Since they are legendary, I'd only run one of each.

I'll go ahead and mention I'm not new to white weenies, I played it all through last standard season and my deck list has about 200+ upvotes haha. I'm more coming back from a stand point of can this strategy that did so well for me in the past compete in the present?

Ajani Steadfast would probably be a shoe-in for a deck like that. Brimaz, King of Oreskos also. I would recommend staying away from the white Paragon, and adding a few Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx can't hurt you too much

Goody On my own deck i responded to the first two cards, as for Nykthos last time in my experience all it ever did for me was ocassionally mess up my mana base to not hit double white, and i will never need the extta mana i figure. Nykthos should only be run (and only one copy, two at most) if you run it alongside Heliod, God of the Sun

notamardybum No more Brave the Elements :(( No more will I sit staring at an impenetrable board state only to top deck it and swing for the win. Gods Willing will have to do.

I think White Weenies can be a fun and explosive deck very easily, but a nicely played Anger of the Gods could quickly stall you out. Brimaz, King of Oreskos, Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit, and a number of other small-but-powerful-in-their-way creatures. I like Lightwalker if there's even a chance you have a counter producer (like Anafenza). Pacifism, Glaring Aegis, and Dromoka Dunecaster to all help push through damage. Of course Myth Realized if you're running some number of non-creature spells, but probably not too many in a weenie deck. Maybe Graceblade Artisan for some of those other auras, though probably not as fast as you may want.

At any rate, I think it has the potential to be competitive, but my major concern is how many low-cost answers there are to everything. Also, some of the best boost cards seem to be soldier oriented, and yet this standard seems more warrior focused. Just a thought to keep in mind. No matter what, Valorous Stance is your friend.
