Why is Consuming Aberration not used more?

I truthfully do not see why it is not used more. It does not require you to have a dedicated mill deck, and becomes absolutely huge whenever you play any spell. I understand that it does not have trample, but cards that would be played in the same deck would include Aqueous Form and Thassa, God of the Sea , which include unblockable effects which could effectively kill the opponent in one turn.
So I am not sure if Dimir is just not played competitively, but I would really like to know why Consuming Aberration is not used more.
At 5 mana a threat is usually only used if it's either really hard to kill or it does a really big effect upon entering the battlefield, aberration does neither of these, as with your suggestion of giving it unblockable with Thassa, one could argue it'd be better to just have another Master of Waves or that an active thassa would still be better.

most decks that use him see him more so as a mill tool and defense. not so much offense. when i run him, i include Rogue's Passage in my mana base, but i don't have spells specifically for him to make him unblockable. and i usually only run 2 of him

I'm not sure if you could call it protection, but you can't Doom Blade him, which should be an upside to using him.
But the whole point is that even if you don't have any mill cards, all your other spells mill a little bit as a bonus.

the decks that would have tried to Doom Blade him, will have a deck full of Dark Betrayal on game two

If I see my opponent drop an Consuming Aberration , I promise I wouldn't care nearly as much, and would probably be thankful he didn't play some other 5 drop. I play control, and half my deck is an answer for it at the end of your turn right after you played it. Making me happy because you just spent a good chunk of mana to do nothing, leaving me to do plenty on my turn without any trouble.

It's also worth noting that Doom Blade use is way down due to the popularity of mono black.

It doesn't have anything to protect itself, which is important for large creatures in Standard. He's competing with Blood Baron of Vizkopa , AEtherling , Obzedat, Ghost Council , Stormbreath Dragon , etc., which you might notice all have some sort of evasion/protection on them.
As jfriday09 said, anyone with any sort of removal is just going to kill it at the end of your turn and Time Walk you.

I play consuming abberation in my mill deck because of his second ability. I've never cared to swing with him. I use him to quickly win the game with Duskmantle Guildmage . Swinging just seems redundant when I can wipe their entire health out by casting a couple tome scours. Either way Duskmantle + Jace Memory Adept is just more reliable. In a nono-mill deck he's not very good at all.
Also Master of Waves makes me laugh. Don't get me wrong it's a decent card for mono blue but it's not really that great. Still I made a tonne of money of him so I can't complain.
Snowstorm - man you post is painful to read with that blur effect. Sorry, had to say something about it.

The font colour is great, the blur effect though buggs out my eyes massively. Might just be my old man eyes (says a 23 year old)The other person who posted I can't even read his/her name. =O
It's probably from staring at too many pixels and wanting everything crisp and readable.

Well as far as I seen the Dimir decks I have seen lately are control base and don't even do mill.
The reason why he is not play much is because he does not bring much to the table for five mana besides being a big creature and with any graveyard hate or removal Consuming can easily be killed.
A example of a five drop that does more is Stormbreath Dragon protection from white, can fly over creatures, and can attack on the turn you summoned him. His monstrous cost is just a bonus.
