I really like the card myself and prefer it over Bloodsoaked Champion (although I run both). Thoughts?

2/1's for 1 just aren't very good right now. People are either playing better blockers (Courser), gaining more life with their two drops (Seeker), or playing a more efficient aggro deck (Red).

They are a completely different strategy. Bloodsoaked Champion is better in the current aggro meta, but Soldier of the Pantheon will fit into the control/midrage decks that want to combat 3 color decks. They are both good. I personally will be playing both, not in the same deck, bu they have their uses.

Pretty much every deck has a way to deal with it easily. When decks are maindecking Lightning Strike , Bile Blight , Polukranos, World Eater , Doomwake Giant and Last Breath his prospects are grim. Plus he does nothing against Mantis Rider , Siege Rhino , and Crackling Doom while not being able to push past Courser and Caryatid with Abzan Charm . Just not a very good card right now. Only decks that should be playing it are Mono-White or W/x Aggro deck. B/w Aggro has way better things to be casting and it's not really reasonable to expect untapped or mana on turn one.

They are both good dudes, with their respective homes. I like what Bloodsoaked Champion does in Mardu, being able to serve as renewable Butcher Chow.

I like what Soldier of the Pantheon can do in Abzan being the 1drop of choice alongside Thoughtseize . Soldier is good right now, not just for his lifegain but Pro-Multicolor is not a bad thing to have with what peeps are running Mainboard. He also rounds out as a solid Sideboard addition for the decks just splashing White.

Hm... I've made a deck with him, Phalanx Leader , Obelisk of Urd and Spear of Heliod . Trying to make him like a 4/3 or 5/4, which can kill a whole damn lot of things. Oh, and he can't be blocked by 2/3 of the gods and the Khans leaders and their guys.... :D I think he is pretty good. He might just need to find a home right now :)

I run Aggro with soldier and have a MBA deck with Champion that I test against constantly. The truth of the matter is that out of all the aggro 1 drops. I have to say Sunblade Elf is the best followed by Soldier of the Pantheon . smashes the MBA deck constantly.

Soldier is hella good in the right deck. Like Rasta_Viking29 pointed out (/x) is his home.

Both my lists for comparison sake...
