+1 on that deck?

I was wondering why some decks, obviously a joke deck, (not funny in most cases) get an up vote from a lot of people? If up voting because the deck is funny or the idea of the deck, that's one thing but I really haven't seen any "funny" deck...not that I've looked around much. Just curious as to why they get so many views and up votes and comments. I'm fairly new and only posted 5 of my deck ideas, all of them, in my opinion, merit a look & maybe even a comment or two. However, I've only received a few up votes and 0 comments. I'm not sure if I'm doing anything wrong here so any suggestion on how I could get more input and maybe a few more up votes, if the deck warrants it, would be great. Thanks.

Be patient and persistent, deck cycle often and someone will eventually leave a comment.

I wrote an article on how to drive comments and views to decks a while back. I'm not one of the writers for the site so its just posted in a forum. It may help and I hope it does. I think its worth a look in any case but I am a bit biased. The Number Games: Gidge's Guide to Copious Comments and Vast Views

I'm in the same boat as you man, I put a lot of effort into my budget decks and deckcycle different ones daily, and I'm always sure to come up with catchy names to grab people's attention. However, in my opinion it's just not enough.

The fact that it is so difficult makes it even more tempting to buy because people (myself included) will take decks more seriously that come from people with the donator edited names. They get more deckcycles and the feature option as well too.

But yeah, since you commented, I'm gonna go check out your decks!

The biggest thing is that when you cycle a different deck each time it takes away from the deck that you cycled before it. If your decks are interesting enough people will look at the rest of your decks and comment/+1

I really don't know why people care so much about upvotes. They're actually meaningless. You aren't guaranteed any, and they aren't a true or accurate reflection of the quality of your deck.

Also, everyone thinks their decks deserve views and upvotes. That bit doesn't make a difference. But if you care about views, there's an article on my profile page.

If you're not getting comments or upvotes then your deck probably isn't great :/

It could also be that almost all of your decks are listed as Casual. I will typically only comment on EDH or some Standard/Modern, but I will typically not look at Casual decks since they are just for fun and normally don't need card recommendations.

Also if you have a specific deck that you want help on, the Deck Help forums is a great place to attract some attention.

@xlaleclx: That's not true at all. You need to generate traffic in order to get views, comments, and upvotes. That's not to say that every deck is a gem; rather, there are plenty of good decks that go without feedback because people are never drawn to them (either because they don't seem interesting or because they aren't publicized).

I say that assuming you're making your deck visible to people by deckcyling and or making a post linking it.

xlaleclx That's kind of what I'm trying to get at. Decks that aren't get are getting views, comments, & up votes and I don't really understand why that is. So if my deck(s) aren't that great, then I think I should be getting more views/comments/up votes than I am if we base this on the fact that decks that aren't good/great are getting them.

It's because they're casual decks. People don't really have much to say about them nor do they feel like they'll get any ideas from them so most people will just ignore them. (Myself included)

If you make a forum post asking for help with the deck or for people's opinions you'll get some traffic. Getting comments and +1s isn't good for much other than growing your e-peen though :x

To me, feedback is more important than +1's. You up vote that's fine, but if you don't give feedback I don't know what you liked or ways I can improve the deck.

@MrShhh: Your problem is that you're creating expectations based on what you think are patterns or similarities. The community isn't that consistent. You just need to work on bettering your advertisements and descriptions.

That, and presence of people like me on this site, who just browse forums/Q&A, and pretty much never look at decks unless prompted to XD

Ask people for help. Post in the Deck Help forum, ask people who know a lot about the format you are interested in (we should make a list of this), and make friends. How do you get help in real life?

@Epochalyptik Better advertisements and descriptions? Does that mean like "$10 turn 4 Win" deck description that doesn't deliver? I don't want to lie. ~~~ @xlaleclx I'm going to test your theory about Casual decks vs Others. I turned 2 of the casual decks I built to Modern legality; they were very simple to change and the idea of the deck is left intact. One deck actually is only about 30% of the original cost after being transformed to modern because there were so much value w/ the older cards that made it illegal to play in modern format. Right now I have 3 of 6 decks posted Modern legal.

These things just take time. I thought my decks would never generate any action-now a lot have. Even my casual ones(modern seems more popular). Having 3 cycles helps too I believe.

November 2, 2014 2:21 p.m.

@MrShhh: I'm not telling you to lie about what your deck is or does. That's actually a very counterproductive way to generate feedback and ratings.

I'm telling you to make your deck more interesting to people. Market it. Give it a unique and interesting name, put effort into the description, and cycle/post about it.

Seriously, go read that article.

It takes time to get comments and upvotes. Your deck is a needle in a hay stack and you have finds to draw attention to it. As an example

I cycled this as a regular member for a few months and a few weeks after I upgraded. I changed the slug 3 times and featured card twice. It easily 50-100 views before you find someone that comments
