A new Article series?

TappedOut forum

Hi guys

I don't know whether this is the right forum to post this thread. If it isn't, I am sorry.

For those that are not aware, I am a level 1 judge and also a massive rules nerd. I love non-intutitive interactions that work in funny or interesting way.

I check the Rules Q&A; section fairly frequently, and sometimes I come across a question I like and that I could talk about for a while. But I also want the poster to have their answer as fast as possible, so I usually try to keep it short. Sometimes I add a second post after a while going a bit deeper on the subject.

When I decide to "go deep", it usually ends up taking me a while to write my answer. Then the Q&A; section swallows it, and nobody will probably ever see it again after a couple days. Instead of doing that, when I find an interaction fascinating, I could go ahead and write a small article discussing the answer and the neighboring rules. People that maybe don't know the ins and outs of the comp-rules as well as a judge would get to learn more about the inner workings of the game. Other rules nerds get their fix of weird interactions. And, I get to keep my rules rants all in the same place.

So my question is - would people have any interest in a series of articles like this? I would probably post one whenever I find a question I consider interesting - that means probably one every 2-3 weeks, but I probably would not have any regularity at least initially. I would love to start putting a few articles out there, but if there is no interest I'd rather save the time. Thoughts?

Ah, also - if you have a catchy name in mind, please do let me know! I am still looking for a good name for the series if it ends up happening.

I love rules trivia, so I'd support it. You could easily write multiple articles on Humility alone

Maybe in time. In a way, I would not really have control on the topic, as these articles would be "sparked" by questions from the Q&A; sections. But if someone asks a question on banding that puts me in a writing mood, sure, I'll write a few words on banding.

I support the idea for this articles thread, I'd follow it for sure. It will also help starting players, and may even point people to cards they never even knew existed!

For a name: It's more what you'd call... guidelines

I'd read those! I'm working on becoming a lvl 1 judge myself and love weird interactions too!

I fully support this idea as a future L1 judge myself.

Does anybody have any idea how one goes about writing an article on this website? I am assuming the powers that be need to greenlight it or something like that.

I would read this.

As for getting it published on the site, I think you have to go through the mods. Talk to someone who writes articles and see who they use to get their articles featured.

For reference: you write something and send it to me. I spellcheck and make sure it's not awful or like absurdly offensive or ridiculous. I send back corrections. You tell me they're ok or you tell me you're not happy. You send it back to me again. I publish.

Google docs or email as a microsoft word attachment.... or just in the body of an email.

Anything really.

"Going Deep" sounds like a good name. Looking forward to reading this as a guy who gets tripped up on rules a lot.

A brief update to keep the people that showed interest posted: I finished the first article of the series a couple days ago. ChiefBell has been notified, but I haven't heard anything back (not gonna lie, part of the reason I am writing this message is that I am not sure he saw the last message I sent him lol - sometimes I stop being notified about messages on my wall for some reason, maybe that's what's going on?).

I have been working on a second article on a small curiosity. It's not going to be as long as the first, but hey.

Finally, I am going to take VampireArmy's suggestion for a name - sorta. I was thinking of calling the series "We have to go deeper". What do you guys think?

No I did but like I work a lot and I'm super busy and stressed.

No problem, take your time. Just wanted to make sure since I had not heard anything back.

I figure you guys are super busy, aso I'd rather the holdup being that it takes time for the admins to get to it rather than communication SNAFUs.

i feel like "we have to go deeper" is a little too casual and wordy. "diving deeper" is shorter and catchier imo

Hmm. I guess this should be moved to the new articles and challenges subforum now.

That said, I just wanted to let all the people that showed interest here know that the first article is out and featured on the homepage! I eagerly await your comments.
