Asterisk next to format

So I've been noticing that sometimes decks have little asterisks (*) after their designated formats when being looked at. What do these represent?

I think it means the deck isn't legal in that format. Not sure, though.

I believe it signifies that it's a prototype.

It's both. If it's a prototype, there's an asterisk. If it's not legal in that format, there's an asterisk.

Alright, that makes sense. It's currently in prototype, so that must be it considering I've double checked that it's legal. Thanks!
