Can we do something about Vintage Masters cards?

TappedOut forum

I'm all for having a complete inventory, but when I hover over a card from Vintage Masters (VMA) it is often difficult to read or just plain looks... wrong. For example: Flowstone Sculpture has it's creature type cut off.

Now, I'm not saying we should cut it all out, but I think that in order to link to that set of cards, one would have to use the set tag and the default would instead show the most recent physical printing.

Femme_Fatale? Your thoughts?

The issue seems to be that the card images are the thumbnails for the set (if you recall, VMA is only an mtgo set).

I'm not sure if it's possible to get an expanded view of the card, as I have no experience with mtgo.

It is not. These images are set in stone and are permanent like this.

We only have 2 options: Remove the images entirely, or photoshop each image individually. And I'm not going to spend the required amount of time to photoshop each and every single image. I never bothered with completing the VMA set, especially after the first scenario of yeago's automatic importing. Conspiracy also got hit, with my reluctance. It was a pretty busy series of moments as I had a lot of midterms, and 5 sets to do. Never got around to finishing VMA, Conspiracy or C14.

How does the site determine which image to bring up? If it brings up the most recent printing, can we fudge VMA back to 1991 or something, that way those silly thumbnails don't pop up?

I like the VMA images. The highlighted words make it clearer at a glance what the card does. Please don't change it.

Most recent printing.

I like the VMA cards as well ... they look nicer than the old ones. I mean, Black Lotus and Force of Will, Mox Emerald and their ilk, they all look superb.

Sure there is the crop on the text, but that isn't that hard to deal with considering you can just open up the card page and voila, the information is there.

I am not a fan of modern borders :P

But, I'm in a minority. I like the old school art, you know, from when magic was trying to figure out what magic is..

Very well. I suppose I will just deal with it.

@vampirelazarus: dat Stasis art.

Exactly.

I'm a fan of the old school Maze of Ith, Blood Moon, Arcane Denial, Price of Progress, and Shivan Dragon. Been playing awhile, so mayhap it's sentimental. I change them in my decks :-)

See, I havent been around that long, I just like the art more, and the premodern era borders appeal to me.

I guess I just like old stuff.

I agree with Blood Moon and Price of Progress. Old style Maze of Ith looks really ugly, and I don't like any of the Arcane Denial or the Shivan Dragon arts. FtV: Dragons version of Shivan Dragon is an exception.

The old Shivan Dragon has always reminded me of Smaug, from the vintage Hobbit cartoon. Kinda tells my age, haha. That's why I dig the old Maze, Femme, kinda weird lol.

Honestly though, MTG has gotten a lot less cartoony, thus better IMO. There are some fantastic artists. Although I do miss Richard Kane Ferguson, who did Price of Progress, Arcane Denial, Dakkon Blackblade, and Everlasting Torment, to name a few.

I have bad memories of Richard Kane Ferguson. He charged $2 per signature at the GP I went to.

Signatures are bloody well annoying to do. Try doing yours to 50 commander decks a day.
