How sick would it be to be able to search a card by similarity, like how you would look up synonyms to a word or similar artists on sporty/last.fm. I want to be able to look up card similarity! like the blue mana equivalent to fog. Or cards that give the similar burn effect of guttersnipe!

fog banks is sorta like fog but it isn't instant. I'm sure there are ways to flash it in...not as efficiently as fog though.

That would be quite the feature, and as such probably won't happen here. I imagine a large amount of coding would need to go into it to be able to pick out a few similar cards out of the thousands of unique cards the exist in Magic today. You could always suggest it in the TappedOut forum and see what the admins think.

Moved to TappedOut forum.
Doing something like this would be enormously complex, and I doubt it will ever happen locally, especially if none of the other databases have put something like it together.

An accurate and all-inclusive list of similarities would almost need to be hand-compiled. That's far too daunting of a task for even WOTC. The advanced engine is a pretty good tool and serves this purpose well, although you do need to know effective searching parameters and practices to get the most out of it.

lol yes I understand the weight of the task. Thought, there are millions of musical artists out there and yet I've seen multiple search engines that perform quite well. the same goes for movies, ever use jinni? Also, I understand that these bands are lookinf for exposure and pay people to get them out there and until mtg cards hve their own agents we won't be seeing this tech anytime soon. But I will agree that tapped out's search engine is actually quite sophisticated and a tremendous help. Not to mention being able to playtest.

A good way to go about it is to go to the advanced search on the Gatherer website, then in the "text" section type the desired effect printed on on fog, e.g. "prevent all combat damage", and then specify "blue" in the color section. The "and" option includes all cards with blue, including multicolor, of you want strictly monocolor, you will have to change "and" to "not" in the option bar and specify "not" for all the other colors.
from the results i got, there are no monocolored blue fog effects that are really the same as fog, but check U/W and you are sure to find a few

Yeah, I second Rewdog's suggestion. Gatherer's advance search engine is great and makes it pretty easy to find anything you might want to look for once you get the hang of it.
