Card Suggestion Feature Missing?

TappedOut forum

Sorry if I missed something in an update, I tried looking around the forums for this.

It looks like the card suggestion feature went missing. Has anyone else noticed this? What happened?

Also been happening for me. No idea why.

I always felt that the card suggestion feature was obtrusive and destructive to the well-being of our social communication. What does it cause?

  • Some people go to comment on decks by just saying nothing other than linking cards and checking the suggestion box. With zero explanation, they expect the author of the deck to take those suggestions by clicking the green button with the end goal of increasing their tappedout rank.

Quite frankly, if this feature is gone for good, then I'd be happy. I want people to comment on decks wholeheartedly wanting to help without it being a disappointing means to an end. By making it no longer acceptable to just list a few cards without an explanation and then leave, I feel like the more detailed and thoughtful comments will emerge, which might fossil a more appropriate environment for community relationships to blossom and endure.

-Logician - I see your point (just listing cards is unproductive and annoying), but I also think you're totally incorrect that removing the card suggestion feature would be an improvement.

Yes, occasionally people are guilty of just listing cards, but people also make flippant remarks about people's decks without using the card suggestion feature.

It may seem trite to you that some people care about ranking, etc., but I think the suggestion feature incentivizes users to look at each other's decks and think about how to improve them more than any other interactive feature on the site. And I think on balance, the vast majority of comments containing card suggestions are productive, insightful, and explained thoughtfully (if briefly).

-Logician So you your suggesting that the card suggestion feature encourages people to leave less "heartfelt" comments. I suppose, but I consider heartless comments better than no comments.

I thought it was more helpful from the receiving end because it automatically sorts the card into the maybeboard, allowing the deck poster to quickly organize suggestions without needing to scroll, copy, click edit -> maybeboard, paste.

Thanks for your responses.

formayor I agree that the majority of card suggestion posts include a satisfying degree of insight and explanation. However, I also think that those comments aren't incentivised by T/O rank. Therefore, I don't see a problem in the feature's disappearance. I don't think there will be any less of those, shall we call it... better comments.

electromancer I consider less heartfelt comments somewhat rude (nothing to get offended by, but enough to draw forth the desire to sigh), and would prefer no comment. That's just my opinion, and I might be alone there. That doesn't change anything. More importantly though, I think you've just illustrated another flaw. Some people just look at the card suggestion section without reading the comments, especially if there are several long comments that they don't feel like reading. I've written some very lengthy comments in my time, occasionally even commenting on every single card in the deck. I write those comments with the intention to help, not with the intention to be overlooked because tl;dr. For that reason, I never checkmark any suggestions. I leave my suggestions to those willing to fully read my comment.

They are important for users who go on hiatus. A deck may get a numerous amount of comments and you'll never know that they are there because the notifications kick them out. However a suggestion function sort of acts like a permanent notification. When you go to that deck page after being away for say 5 months, you'll see those suggestions and realize that people have things to say and you'll go to read the comments.

And remember, suggestions are optional. You don't have to give them and nor do you have to receive them. You can turn them off on your decks and frequently you can just ignore them when they pop-up.

Suggestions are another thing as a sort of reward for people who make good suggestions. I like accepting suggestions from people who give detailed and well-thought out examples. It always feels like the person who gave such a good suggestion should be rewarded for such so that they can go out and give good suggestions to others.

Remember, the suggestion function rewards GOOD suggestions. Not just spamming suggestions.

Oh, and the suggestion function is also important for the "auto-generate" suggestions.

Finally, yes, suggestions are calculated into points, unless yeago recently changed that,.

Femme_Fatale on that topic, kind of, how does the auto generated suggestions work? I've never got any after clicking the button.

I honestly can't remember. I was able to get them to work once when it was first implemented, then it broke sometime down the line and we haven't bothered fixing it. At least I think it is broken, I don't know, I'll have to check again.

And yes, it is indeed broken, but not in the way I thought it was.

So yeah, no suggestions can be received from the auto-generate suggestions function.
