CARDNAME Has Triggered a Price Alert! (and) All of Our Images Have Been Replaced With Scans!

I keep getting this blasted price alert notification that I can't do anything about. I can't fix the prices on cards or change them or anything like that. I once submitted price checks, so that is the only reason why I'm getting these price alerts.

The Grand Abolisher and the Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth price alerts occur at different times. But they both occur at least once a day.
Beyond that, it looks like we have a mass card database problem. Some of our images have now been completely erased for scans of images. These images look like they were taken from magiccard.info, and not from where they should have been taken from, the WotC card image database. I'm trying to find a pattern, but the only pattern that is showing is that the images that are affected seem to be only from sets and supplementary products from before Dark Ascension. More news on this in a latet while I gather more information.
Examples:
In other news, please leave the card submitting for Fate Reforged to me until yeago unfreezes the cache refresh rate. While I have not gotten an official word from him, it appears that he has not unfreezed it yet from the time he freezed it on the 23rd (freezed because of performance issues). In concordance with this, I'll only be submitting cards when they become hosted in full size through an article on the WotC homesite, or through the WotC card image database.

so im seeing the card image problem. but, is it really a problem?

i brought in a bunch of higher resolution cards from another source. I still have the old images. I only replaced images that were super small.

as for the card alerts, i dunno, go disable your alerts at those cards.

Would Path to Exile be an example? It seems blurry especially around the text.

Can you do another site then yeaGO? I really dislike these images and most of the old ones weren't actually low res. If you want I can give you the links to WotC's card image database for the ones to Shards of Alara.
Like, I find these things hideous.

I'm really not seeing an issue with any of the cards linked so far.

I think the coloration is the main issue. They are a bit darker than they used to be

Okay, I'm gonna be frank. Why put in a section of this site dedicated to user contribution, if you are going to go and toss it out the window on numerous levels? People worked hard on all those sets. And I honestly don't see why anyone should even bother to continue working on the database if their work is just going to get replaced.

They are quite darker. I'll give two comparisons. One is from where the images used to be taken from, the WotC card image database, and the other are the scans from magiccards.info.
You won't notice them in deck lists or card lists or any other section of the list system, because the cache hasn't refreshed them. But you will notice them on the set spoiler, the individual card pages, and when you link the cards.

First, not all suggestions will be implemented. That's hard reality. Never go in assuming that something will change immediately or at all.
Second, nobody is throwing anything out completely. We're just not convinced that there's a significant problem here. And replacing existing entries or information in the database doesn't somehow discredit those who originally worked on those entries. We're grateful to all the volunteers for the time and effort they put into populating and maintaining the database, but there are a number of errors and inconsistencies with the way things are done.
Third, if there's a way to automate this system, it's worth discussing for that reason alone. Overall, the system needs some work both from the tech end and from the user end.

Those are quite darker........
But Im not getting involved in the discussion :P

Then I would appreciate it if it was discussed, and not done without user input like it has been the moment I got back in from my hiatus.
About the inconsistencies, that is easily fixed. The first time an upgraded user goes to click on "add/fix card" have it automatically direct them to a tutorial that they have to complete, this way it helps users follow a single set guideline to adding cards.

Regarding the first point: as I said earlier, the system is in a bit of a mess right now. Between things disappearing due to deleted information and things being updated automatically, we're still trying to work out where everything is and what needs to be fixed.
Second, if running this site has taught me anything, it's that people can't be trusted to read. No offense--this is a great community and all--but how often do I have to move threads or explain where to put something? And that's just basic site use.
What's probably going to happen in the coming X period of time is that we'll institute a more exclusive system of DB privs and have an actual team of (unofficially) trained users to add cards. That will give us more control over the process and how it's coordinated. The DB mods will be able to talk to one another about the status of new cards as well as the status of existing cards, and everything should get a lot smoother.

See, the DB privs would be a wonderful inclusion to have. I would be more than happy to kick-front that training to a bunch users who would be willing to try and submit cards. I'll just make an article with a new tutorial, complete with images, and then I can go from there.
However, I honestly think that you guys need to choose whether or not you want the system automated or user done, because going half and half is just going to cause problems with users and the technical level.

Nope. The new images will all be that dark in decks and playtester once yeago puts back in the cache.

This should theoretically only be true for some cards. That particular Lightning Bolt is a foil IRL, so it has a darker scan image on mc.i

I was wondering about that - It looked rather foil.

I think that the the fact that the non-WotC ones take up the whole pop up is really nice. I hated having the white corners.
As for the darkness level, so long as I can easily see what it is, it doesn't really matter to me.

THIS JUST IN!!!
There are a lot more cards that made the swap from what I previously thought. A LOT MORE. All one has to do is look at the spoiler version of any set page and they'll see just what I'm talking about.
