Competitive sub-forums
TappedOut forum

I think it would be wise to add a competitive sub-forum to each format. I have noticed that players seem to be on different skill levels, as well as different deck building ideas. Competitive subforums can focus on optimization and new potential strategies while more casual/budget decks can receive the appropriate feedback as well. I would also say the competitive forums should allow personal lists because people will generate generic lists to discuss the meta. I think this would be a particular boon to the Commander forums, where tappedout has a budding cEDH community
I can foresee a few issues with this:
-
It effectively doubles the number of forums the mods have to manage.
-
It makes it even more confusing for new people when they are trying to figure out which forum to post in.
-
People's opinions of what "competitive is" is subjective. I have seen a lot of decks that people would call competitive that are in fact far from it.
-
Tthis divide is by far the most evident in commander, most other formats don't have this level of polarisation.
What could be a good middle-ground would be to have tags that you could add to threads, like "Competitive", "Casual", "Budget", etc. that you can then filter each of the sub forums by, so you can focus on particular kinds of decks. (hell, we could even have a "Can't figure out deck-linking" to tag against threads where people just post decklists as plaintext - a pet peeve of mine if you can't tell).

I am not sure I see much utility in this division. For the feedback subforums, it is fairly easy to tell at a glance what level of deck a person is looking to create, and most people asking for help are fairly clear on what level they want to play at. For meta discussion subforums, I think the improved diversity of thought provides more utility than splitting a conversation on the same issue into two separate discussions.
