Custom names, who does them?

TappedOut forum

Posted on May 2, 2013, 1:23 a.m. by ShadowLand

I see peoples names on here all the time that have been tweaked with a haze around them or have split colors between top and bottom. But who does them that way or knows the way to do this? I am interested.

The 0px 0px 10px refer to the position and size of the shadow... Change the first 0px to 30px, I believe that is the horizontal number, and it will be more of a drop shadow than a glow effect

Thanks Denial048 for clarifying that!

No worries, I had actually just looked it up the night before :P

Finally got this figured out. Occasionally, I realized the shadow code was only five 0's instead of 6. That and other dumb formatting errors. Thank you to everyone in this thread for all their help.

Glad to hear you got it to work!

Hey yall. was there ever a new forum created laying this all out for us that are completely inept at this. Could really use some help since nothing seems to work

I have not yet talked to anyone about getting an article published, I have been swamped at work and with projects, so I have had no time, but hopefully I will get some here shortly. I honestly don't even remember who I am supposed to get in touch with to get an article featured. Anyone have that info?

i edited my name and have a lime green color with black shadow. it works on my profile page but no where else. can you guys see the color?

May 20, 2013 7:40 p.m.

ShadowLand says... #11

Not yet, but it takes a while for the name to show up in your posts Dreno33, if it's on your profile page just be patient, it will show up everywhere else in a couple hours.

Just wondering if an actual tutorial has been put up somewhere for this. I'm still not 100% sure where or how to start, I'm usually pretty quick with HTML but I think the way the name customization is formatted is what's throwing me off.

June 1, 2013 2:10 p.m.

Sainted says... #13

@SithSerith the part that threw me was two parts. one is in the part with thoe code where you enter the text leave it blank. and two for each letter you replicate that code in each box in the customizing page.

June 1, 2013 2:19 p.m.

SithSerith says... #14

@ApocryphalSaint See, that's what doesn't make sense to me. If I could just be told where to put what (dividing the letter sections by number for example) I think I'd be fine. I just want a text shadow with a Blue -> Red gradient. I'm sure I'm making it harder than it needs to be though haha

June 1, 2013 2:44 p.m.

SithSerith says... #15

and I just now noticed that I even botched the link in my above comment, I was typing too fast xD

June 1, 2013 2:45 p.m.

Sainted says... #16

000000;text-shadow:#00FFFF 4px 4px 17px; <========== This is word for word what i put into my first box, jsut add another # in front of all the 0s in the front. which by the way is the color code for BLACK, the color of the first lettter in my name. the 00FFFF is the color code for the SHADOW that is showing

June 1, 2013 2:48 p.m.

Sainted says... #17

you steal my color combos ill hunt you down boy i swear to god

June 1, 2013 2:49 p.m.

SithSerith says... #18

Okay, now I think I get it. I just put the code in each letter to make the gradient manually then? I was trying to put the gradient in each letter before and I think that's why it wasn't working.

June 1, 2013 2:53 p.m.

Sainted says... #19

yea just change those two 6 digit codes with HTML colors. the First one for the letter. the second for the Shadow

June 1, 2013 2:56 p.m.

now go +1 my Eagles and Sh*t deck.

June 1, 2013 2:56 p.m.

SithSerith says... #21

Alright, thanks a ton. That makes a LOT more sense. I'll be able to get it now.

DaggerV says... #25

Trying to get this to work, but basically trying to do this, along with a silver (C0C0C0) shadow. However trying a bunch of stuff I keep breaking table and I'm just pretty much using a code generator trying to tie it all together.

June 5, 2013 12:59 p.m.

ShadowLand says... #27

ApocryphalSaint, maybe you can walk him through that real fast, I am at work and on my phone so real hard to type html on here. Sorry DaggerV, if you still haven't got it by the time I get home around 4, I will post a lengthy reply with direct instructions then

June 5, 2013 1:15 p.m.

DaggerV says... #28

I actually just almost have it now, I just can't get the shadow across the whole text, just individual letters.

June 5, 2013 1:26 p.m.

Sainted says... #29

K so try changing the pt pt pt ratios. do say....5 5 15. if you dont like it try 25 on that last one. Fore everyone's shadow on here its on each individual letter. the goal is to not have it be such a defined shadow that it looks chopping.

June 5, 2013 1:40 p.m.

Sainted says... #30

Id also recommend a differnt color for the shadow. even though that means redo-ing all the code. I feel like that color just isnt going to cooperate very well if you want it too look blended

June 5, 2013 1:42 p.m.

DaggerV says... #31

Green, orange, and silver/grey is my color but admittedly it doesn't' look appealing here. I do need to sit down and write out a better ratio for the color radiant too, I just kinda moved the dot up a few specs when getting the hex code for colors, since I was just trying to make it work, so it's not at a set pace it's changing colors. I'll get it all purdied up though, I just need to figure out colors.

notamardybum says... #32

How do i change the font?

34282C;text-shadow:#BCC6CC 0px 0px 30px; is what i got so far.

June 5, 2013 4:40 p.m.

DaggerV says... #33

After 30px; add

font-family:"desiredfont";

And insert whatever supported font in "desiredfont" without the " "

June 5, 2013 7:01 p.m.

notamardybum says... #34

thank you. trying to find a font thats recognizable by tapped out is quite difficult...is there perhaps a list of fonts that tappedout knows?

June 5, 2013 10:24 p.m.

ShadowLand says... #35

Just use a very basic list of fonts, I listed some much earlier in this thread that work. BTW, it's not necessarily TO that does not accept the font, but rather the web browser. And just because it works in your web browser, does not mean that it will work in someone else's web browser. Therefore, the more basic the font, the more browsers across the web are capable of seeing it. Just FYI.

DaggerV says... #36

Times is the only one that I've tried. Serif maybe?

MrKnify says... #38

so a quick update for those reading, #123456;text-shadow:#654321 0px 0px 12px;in each box will colour and shadow each letter, my issue is i fill in the last box and it changes the color of the whole thing except for the first letter :(

August 14, 2013 1:34 a.m.

MrKnify says... #39

after this morning it is working. My next question, can these codes be done when you change your name (from the change name box) ??

August 15, 2013 1:25 a.m.

Exterminatus says... #40

Can you change the size of the shadow effects?

October 12, 2013 12:11 p.m.

MrKnify says... #41

yes, but it makes the shadow less dense. It is something you wil have to play around until you get it the way you like it.

October 12, 2013 12:21 p.m.

could somebody please post a list of the fonts availible? I've been having trouble with this, and while I may be necroing, i feel this is a valid question.

my main question is why instead of adding a font, it takes away the color of the first letter

Just Testing my new username still cant seem to get shadows to work, heres a copy of the code im usingnavy;text-shadow:#4px 4px 10px white; font-family:fantasy;Any help would be awesome thx

January 27, 2014 5:13 a.m.

MrKnify says... #44

There are many things that can go wrong when working with colours and text.

within the forum you will need to break into the page @Soulreaver-dv now you will want to take a look at the order of your html... try < span style="color:#000000;text-shadow:#666666 4px 4px 10px;font-family:fantasy" > the 6 digit number is your colour code, you can find these out via google.< /span >

of course you will need to take the spaces out from just after < and just before the >.

January 27, 2014 8:44 a.m.

Soulreaver-dv says... #45

Nope hat did not work, is there any thing else you might advive?

January 27, 2014 9:13 a.m.

MrKnify says... #46

your best bet is to experiment. it took me a while to get it right, the way I have shown you should work in the forums, for the name colours just start at colour and forget about the quotation marks and the < you wont need the /span either.
